At the bottom of the eligibility is the wording below. I am a carer so I cannot work from home, only entitled to statutory sick pay but we are not on any benefits as my husband also works and we are above the threshold however this will.still leave us short. I obviously can't work from home.

If you do not get benefits
You can apply for the payment if you meet all of the following conditions:

you’ve tested positive for COVID-19 or been told you’re a close contact by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app
you’re not exempt from self-isolating
you’ll lose income because you cannot work from home

I think each local authority is doing it slightly differently? Mine says you need to be in receipt of certain benefits in order to qualify. Working tax credits is on the list, but child tax credits isn't.

Also, isn't there a specific compensation scheme for carers who have to isolate?

You can apply for the discretionary scheme - you've nothing to lose by doing so - but the majority of people are rejected so don't count on it

I haven't heard about anything for carers.

I got it last year when dd tested positive and was a contact on test and trace. I work in a cafe so not a job I could do from home!
I applied on my local council website and had to give a lot of info including a letter from my boss, worth it though as I had to be off for 10 days and lost out on pay for those days.

Are you in Wales by any chance? gov.wales/covid-19-statutory-sick-pay-enhancement-scheme

I got this in December.
My DD (9) was positive and I can't work from home.
Just submitted a few docs. Was paid in about two weeks later

I applied 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet. My council said there's a huge backlog. Criteria is anyone earning under £31k can apply

You've probably sorted this now but if you're a carer you should be paid your normal wage by your employer who has access to claim top up payments from the infection control fund.

The payments are paid from 2 schemes. Main scheme for people in receipt of certain benefits and then a discretionary scheme for people not receiving benefits but lose income due to isolation. In our authority the only criteria for the discretionary scheme is you must be working, have lost income due to isolation, have engaged with test and trace and earn less than £700 gross per week. You must have tested positive on a PCR or assisted LFT.

Anyone who tested positive up to 11.59 yesterday has 42 days to apply. Anyone who tests from today will not be eligible.
