Covid positive, 36 weeks pregnant, c-section in 3 days what do I do?

Tested positive this morning on LFT (as did DC). DH is so far negative on LFT but we are both booked in for a PCR test tomorrow at the hospital. I've no idea what we are meant to do now. Obviously I am staying well away from DH in the (highly unlikely) event that he really is negative he can stay that way and come to the birth.

Is there anything I need to do except report this to the surgical team? I keep seeing posts about needing blood thinners and have also read that a few women have had their c-section earlier because of risks/clots etc so I am panicking. VERY selfishly hoping I go into labour today as if I do we only need his LFT as proof and they wouldn't bother with PCR even though I am positive. The whole thing is fucking ridiculous Hmm

Can I insist my partner be allowed to visit if he does turn out positive? As I will be in a bloody side room regardless and he isn't exactly going to be running about the ward touching everyone else? Absolutely get that he might not be able to sit in theatre and see his first child be born Hmm but I have a guaranteed 3 day stay afterwards.

(And people wonder why we are all so pissed at the Tories partying at the height of the pandemic when we nobodies STILL have to deal with shite like this Angry )

I don’t know what the rules or implications are, but you absolutely SHOULD tell the surgical and maternity teams, it’s the only sensible thing to do. They need to know so that they can care for you and the baby in the best possible way. That is what matters most here.

Call your midwife/the labour ward and ask them. There will no doubt be a procedure in place.

This. You need to speak with them so they can manage the medical risk to you, and the risk to both other mums/new borns, and to the people who will be caring for you.

Thanks all, it makes perfect sense that I need to talk to the midwives. Just in a state of panic so couldn't see clearly.

Going to give them a call and PRAY that DH isn't bloody positive like the rest of us. I'm just so angry that I've managed to not get Covid at all despite working on Covid wards myself through the pandemic, only to get it the absolutely ONLY week it is crucial that we don't actually get it Sad

Quick update, I'm in hospital! Came in yesterday with severe covid symptoms and they found I had low oxygen sats and a high pulse!

Being treated for blood clots on the lungs and my csection is likely to be brought forward after a scan tomorrow to see if the clots have cleared.

If anyone reading this thread is in the same situation and has ANY doubt about calling the midwife or insisting on getting checked, DO NOT HESITATE! I had no pain in my ribs or lungs that was additional to the pain I am already in (costochondritis) and if I hadn't come in they wouldn't have found it and I could have been seriously unwell.

Thank you all above who pushed me to call the midwife. I was very hesitant and thought I was making a fuss, as we all usually do. Luckily the team at my trust are fab and have all after very quickly!

That’s terrifying, thank goodness you went in. All the very best to you all. Can DH come in?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 26/01/2022 05:21

Oh god OP, hope you are doing ok, at least you are in the right place.

Sorry, but you can't insist your DH be there if he turns positive, its a big risk to other patients and the staff providing your care. A silver lining I guess that you are isolating from him now. I really hope everything works out for you all!
