Can covid trigger migraines?

We've just been on a family stay cation and all of us have tested positive for Covid. Most of us are just experiencing heavy cold like symptoms but I'm a bit worried about my mum.

She's had two migraines in less than a 48 hour period. It's not like she's never had them before because she certainly suffers from them now and again and is on a regular prescription of Sumatriptan. It's just odd for her to have them in such quick succession and seems a lot for her to go through in a short space of time.

Has anyone heard of this being a symptom before?

Covid has been shown to trigger neurological symptoms so I'd say it isn't beyond the realms of possibility especially as she already suffers with migraines.

I had the most awful headache/migraine with Covid (I am a sufferer normally but this was worse), it made me physically sick too

Covid gave me a two day migraine which no painkiller could touch

Most people who are prone to migraine will find that being ill is a trigger, so I don't think it's unusual

Added to that we know that COVID can disrupt the menstrual cycle & potentially cause hormonal fluctuations, another common trigger.

I think general advice is to watch out for any migraine symptoms your mum hasn't had before, and just be aware that a very bad headache can be a symptom of a CVST (a type of brain blood clot), so just be vigilant and get medical advice if anything feels unusual.

Hope she feels better soon!
