Is there still a grant for not being able to work due to isolation?

Hi does anyone know if there is still a grant or something for if you can’t work due to isolating? My daughters just tested positive and I also have a 3 year old who I’m now going to have a problem taking to preschool as I can’t being my 4 yo DD with me. I can work from home but with both of them home it’s not possible so I think I will have to take however long this takes off work, no doubt my son will catch it too. I’m negative and could quite possibly stay that way due to the vaccine. My husband owns his own business so he will be working as long as he stays negative so I’m the one to take the hit with missing work but our bank balence can’t really afford it! Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, if you’re under your councils low income threshold - but they’d need to do a PCR test.

Look on yr council's website

Your son might not get it. It’s really random. I know plenty of families where some children get it but others don’t despite close contact.

Thank you I will have a look on the council website! I for the nhs so thought they’d be more helpful but have been told it’ll be unpaid leave and that I’m not allowed to work from home with a child at home even if I wanted to give it a go! I will be calling HR tomorrow tomorrow to see what happens if she is positive tbh I’m going to start sharing drinks with her as if I get it too then I’ll get paid (that’s an awful way to think though isn’t it!) xx

Needs a PCR as proof

Unless you actually get it yourself then I don’t think there is any financial support no. Pretty shit but it works bette me if you end up getting it.
That said I slept with my ds when he got it and in didn’t catch it!

You can get it if you're taking time off for a child that had covid

A friend when her dd got it (they needed pcr) she got the council grant. She didn't catch it.

@dementedpixie
Fair enough I stand corrected. I am fairly sure not all of us are eligible though.

Yes it's claimed through your local authority now. Guess it will vary a bit depending on how strict their criteria is. I've applied for it, but as it's discretionary I'm not convinced they'll accept my claim. Had to submit bank statements, payslips and make all sorts of declarations about how its affected my income. Also have to be in receipt of certain benefits to qualify as well, but it may be different where you are.

I did get a positive PCR test on my son (my own was negative, but I've since come down with covid as well). But they only asked for the 8 digit test and trace code for my son (which you now get after submitting a positive LFD result anyway). So I suspect the requirement for having a PCR result is no longer in place, but get one anyway just to be sure.
