Faint positive after 60 minutes?

DD is 6, I did a test on her read it after 15 minutes and it was negative.

About an hour later I checked it and there was a very very faint positive on the test.

Is it valid? I don’t want to send her to school if she maybe has it, but it was so faint I had to strain to see it, and it was after the half hour. I mean it#s still so faint now I can't see it unless I squint, so is that positive or not?

It was a LFT from the green and white box but I did a throat and nose swab as I've been advised to by her school due to an outbreak.

I'd do another in the morning and go from there.

In my experience all ours that became positive after the timeframe were positive the next day within the timeframe.

It is invalid. You need to check after 30 minutes. That will give the correct result. Chances are its negative.

Watsername · 23/01/2022 18:18

I find most of the green and white ones (orient gene) develop a faint grey line over time. If it was negative at 15 mins, then it’s negative. You shouldn’t read them after the allotted time limit. I have taken to throwing them away immediately after 15 mins otherwise I worry myself.

@Watsername it was a grey line

Do another in the morning for sure. Tests after the 30 minute mark are void and should not be read but if you did not check it before the 30 minute mark, the line could have been there within specified time anyway and was in fact positive.

Dd had a faint positive the other day. It did show up within the 30 minute mark (just). Very very faint, easily missed but it was stronger the next day!!

I'm certain if your child was indeed positive and has covid the line would be much stronger and brighter by tomorrow anyway!

Watsername · 23/01/2022 18:22

I would say it was negative. But do another one tomorrow and read at exactly 15 minutes.

@Username3092997 I checked it at 15 minutes and it was negative and it sat next to me for ages and was still negative, it wasn't until an hour later when I picked it up to throw it away that a very very faint grey line was there, I had to squint to see it

@Watsername I read todays at 16 minutes but it was next to me the whole time and wasn't positive at all, its only when I went to put it in the bin I noticed the faint grey line, I had to squint to see it.

It’s not valid

ValidOrNot · 23/01/2022 18:30

Thanks everyone, I think I'm just being paranoid as there's an outbreak in her class and I'm conscious of it.

I'll try and test again tomorrow but she's only daily tests anyway so will test again tomorrow evening if I forget in the morning yes irresponsible of me if she is infact positive but then the same could be said if she then turns up positive on Tuesday or Wednesday

I find this with the flowflex brand, follow up PCR tests came back negative

ValidOrNot · 23/01/2022 18:33

Just checked my other tests from this brand for both me and DD and they all have the small grey line on if you squint, so I was just being paranoid.

Sorry!

Definitely negative.
I test daily for work and many tests I haven't discarded after 30 minutes end up with a faint second line.

ValidOrNot · 24/01/2022 09:07

Thought I'd update, tested this morning and there's a strong positive so @Username3092997 was right.

She's ok, just a bit of a headache. Going to be a long week.

Ahhhh, bugger. It's happened quite a few times here now Sad. Hope she can get an early release and she stays well. It has gone through our house, DS2 who was the first to get it was really poorly, 2 days later followed by DP and me who were also unwell and feeling rotten (although my test took another 48 hours to go pos!!) And finally 7 days later my youngest ds who is 6. He's totally asymptomatic and on day 3. Isnt it strange how it manifests! Confused
Hope it isn't too long for you all. Do has managed release on day 8, but ds2 tested pos until day 10. I'm still pos on day 9! Ds1 is 19 so he is still clear as he is totally isolated himself from the rest of the house! I think that's the only way to prevent little ones and parents from sharing it with each other!
