5-11s with underlying conditions - how to get vaxxed?

I have an under 12 who has a range of conditions that meet the vulnerable requirement according to the UK Gov covid website where they speak of certain groups of under 12s being jabbed.

I contacted my GP only to be told that they are not involved with vaccines at all and to contact 119. i then contacted 119 to be told that the Gps are compiling the lists of vulnerable children and to contact them.

Does anyone have any top tips? I feel like every day is Russian roulette and I am reluctant be on tenterhooks for another flipping year!

Was it a receptionist that you that? We got told that ( when trying to sort out a 12-15 vaccine) by a receptionist at the health centre that was doing them. I think they either don't know or are automatically telling everyone that to get rid of them.
The GPs have been told to compile lists and then either they do them or the names are passed on to someone else to do them. I think it will be done in the same way that the 12-15 vulnerable group were done so if you know someone locally who was in that group you may get more information that way.

Definitely GP, once it’s agreed by the local commissioning group. I was ‘fibbed off’ initially but went back and explained and the GP practice has delved into it and hope to have the paediatric doses available after the end of Jan.

Can your child’s consultant advise?

Gladioli23 · 23/01/2022 19:36

It should definitely be GPs getting in touch - just may take a little while to filter down, and for the paediatric vaccine to come in. (They can in theory do a reduced dose of the non-paed vaccine but my understanding is that then has to be individually prescribed to each patient by a prescribing HCP so isn't likely in many places.)

I'd give it a couple more weeks and if you haven't heard anything by then get in touch with your local CCG.

I'm so sorry you're going through this OP

I had it with teens, when household CEV could be done but it wasn't open to their age in general. GP said they hadn't received guidance and should go through 119 as they didnt do jabs. I sent them the guidance and confirmed with 119 that GPs had to identify those who qualified. It took about six weeks, multiple emails, difficult phone calls (I was even accused by receptionist of timewasting and tying up their phone lines

As they have been through this with each move down the age groups, and the highly vulnerable being offered ahead of rest of the age group, I really hoped the systems would be working by now. Sadly it seems they are stuck at square one.

With hindsight I wouid have involved CCG from first inaccurate message and raised a formal complaint against the practice,

I hope you get a breakthrough without needing to resort to that. Speak to senior practice administrator on Monday, or book a telephone call with the senior partner - they might be able to get the practice to meet its obligations without further delay

Just ask your MP. I had the same issue with the GP for my cv 12 year old. He was vaccinated later than many local non-vulnerable children as a result. The MP sorted it for me in 48 hours and I had been going round in circles for weeks. I would ask your GP surgery to make sure your child is correctly coded - mine was when it came down to it but it was initially assumed he wasn’t. It seems in our case it was an ‘admin error’ and he was ‘left off the list’.

Thanks so much. And thanks to everyone who has replied. When i spoke to the GP surgery they did say he was coded as having asthma and autism and allergies, But that it was nothing to do with them and to call 119. So hopefully that should mean he is coded correctly.

I will try via his asthma and allergist consultant as well as trying all the ideas here.

i really appreciate everyones responses, thank you.
