Toddler covid?

My DS is 2.5, he has a fever, bloodshot eyes, lethargic, runny nose on and off, really loose stools for 3 days...

I know there are a million things it could be, he attends nursery so catches all sorts.

I've done a bit of Googling (which I know I shouldn't do) but a few symptoms could be covid?

He will not let me do a LFT? Screams and I don't blame him.

If I could get it done whilst he's asleep would it be ok if I didn't swab for the 5 seconds recommended, he'll wake and yell immediately?

I dont really know what to do...

Hope the little chap feels better soon. Could be covid, does sound like it could be and testing would be ideal but I know how hard it is.

Could be another virus that's rife too! It's hard to say!

Lft's aren't always accurate. If you can go I would go straight to pcr. I think if you have symptoms = pcr. Maybe order a home test so you can do it at home rather than in the car. You can just do the nose on pcr too! Results make take a couple days but he won't be able to go nursery with a fever and and upset tummy anyway so will be home regardless.

From my experience we got positives from really quick short swabs in the nose with my two, when we had it. We've never tried the sleep swabbing as worried they would wake up traumatised (mine hate testing) and never want to go sleep again 😅 mine are older than yours though...

You don't have to got to far up the nose either. We got positives from swabs that I thought were very poor!

Do you have a partner? Maybe one of you distracts him with something whilst the other swabs. Get him to hold a teddy bear or something. I know it's not easy though... maybe iPad with something he likes on.

Hope he feels better soon! 💕

Thank you for your reply.

I just managed to do an extremely poor swab, it looks negative but I think you are right with symptom's it has to be a PCR. I just wanted to avoid bundling him in the car as he's unwell, didn't think of ordering a home PCR. I'll order one now.

Yes, DH is at work though so we'll see how it goes tomorrow as he isn't at nursery until Tuesday. Just fearful as feel like I'm constantly taking time off work and people aren't always sympathetic, not that it can be helped.

Thanks again Smile

Yes, I found when my 3 yr old tested positive that a brief twist in each nostril showed an incredibly strong positive when he had symptoms.

It really didn't go high up at all. There wasn't any snot either.

All those symptoms were what T and T asked about, including eyes.

Hope he's better soon Thanks

Sorry didn't see the update; all cases are different though.

Home pcr is good idea

My son hates them also.
I've been too scared to do it whilst he sleeps for him to wake up and jerk and the swab goes high in his nose. Makes me feel queezy!

For us, we lay him across my partners knees, he held his arms and I done it. Very quick tbh in each nostril.
He cried but soon got over it.

If going to a centre, bribe with everything!
Songs on phone, sweet treat after. It's actually easier then being strapped in car seat. Stressful few minutes but gets the job done.

Hope he feels better soon.

You just have to pin them down. It’s awful but it’s over very quickly & no harm done! I have to do it with my 4 year old & toddler. My husband holds their hands down and quickly swab. Sometimes it’s holding arms with one hand and head with the other to stop the thrashing 😩

We’ve had to loads, it’s such a faff. I hate it.

But neither of mine seem remotely effected. They remain happy, cheerful children!
