Tested positive school runs and nursery

Onlyrainbows · 23/01/2022 09:06

I tested positive (I only have a sore throat and some weird feeling in my head). However I have a 2yo and an 11yo who have tested negative. Can I do the school run?

I will say yes. Wear a mask and do it. The government are weeks off scrapping all isolation guidelines anyway.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 23/01/2022 09:09

Erm no. Just because they will be scrapping isolation (which I look forward to) doesn't mean you can do it now.

Toomuch2019 · 23/01/2022 09:11

We were in this situation last week and we were lucky one of our neighbours agreed to take DC for us

Tryagainplease · 23/01/2022 09:11

I absolutely wouldn’t.

DS had Covid and then I caught it. I didn’t take him back to nursery until I had started to test negative as well as him.

Doesn’t matter what rules are ‘being scrapped’ - you have Covid and you need to isolate. Ask someone else to take them.

cliffdiver · 23/01/2022 09:12

No.

We were in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago.

DDs went in a taxi to school and a family member walked them home.

In your situation I would probably keep the 2yo at home. Could the 11yo walk / get a taxi?

Also, the 11yo should be taking a LFT every day before school.

FloatyBoaty · 23/01/2022 09:14

No I wouldn’t. At that age you’ll have to get out of the car for the 2yo. It’s not fair on staff. (I’m a LP so I understand it’s hard).

The 11yo could travel with a friend, take a taxi etc.

2yo you’ll probably have to keep off.

Onlyrainbows · 23/01/2022 09:14

I have no one to ask

  • school is 12mi away and DH I'd ons trip.
OP posts:
FloatyBoaty · 23/01/2022 09:16

Can DH come home?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 23/01/2022 09:16

@Onlyrainbows

I have no one to ask - school is 12mi away and DH I'd ons trip.
Then they'll have to stay off
milkysmum · 23/01/2022 09:18

I'd double check the school policy also- ours changed some time ago to say if we had covid positive members of household then dc could no longer go into school ( this was after frequent outbreaks in the school ).

ColettesEarrings · 23/01/2022 09:20

Test the 11yo every day before school, drive him and drop off, keep the 2yo at home. If you don't drive and there's truly no one else to ask, then the 11yo will have to stay home as well.

AlwaysLatte · 23/01/2022 09:20

No, you are not supposed to leave the house.

Forfamily123 · 23/01/2022 09:22

No you can’t. Either the child goes by taxi, or with a friend or does school work at home.

RichTeaRichTea · 23/01/2022 09:28

My children’s nursery won’t take them if there are positive cases at home. You have to wait until everyone is out of isolation. Have you double checked your nursery’s policy?

Dimondsareforever · 23/01/2022 09:28

No you shouldn’t. It’s not fair on others who you will be in contact with. What if they catch it from you and take home to a vulnerable relative?

Whilst we all hope SI will be scrapped from March …. That’s 2 months away with 2 more months of data to check. We are not ready to stop SI now.

IroningBoardz · 23/01/2022 09:29

No. Mine stayed off when I had it.

WutheringTights · 23/01/2022 09:32

Speak to the school. If you can drive then they might arrange for you to drop your 11 year old off by car 10 mins early and pick up 10 mins early, with you not leaving the car. That's what our school does. The 2 year old is trickier and might need to stay at home.

Frazzled2207 · 23/01/2022 09:32

Best thing to do is see if any friends/neighbours can do it.
Trickier with the 2yo but for an 11 yo who needed a lift and I didn’t need to leave the car I would do it as no more risk than sharing a house with the dc

Onlyrainbows · 23/01/2022 09:34

I've checked with both a couple of weeks ago when we had a scare, as long as they're negative it doesn't matter to them.

Lovemylittlebear · 23/01/2022 09:35

NO - mine stayed at home and missed out on stuff and some school. In our circumstances it was the first time it had been in our home and likely omicron from our symptoms. Regardless of government rules (which have chopped and changed and not always followed the science) morally no way was I going to spread it. Sod’s law three out of four kids turned positive over the course of our isolation…. For me if a person can keep kids home and it’s not putting child at risk or causing irreparable educational damage (mine are primary age) then it’s selfish to send them in let alone drop a child to a nursery door. I would feel far worse knowing someone got seriously ill following my choices than the inconvenience of staying in (we did 18 days total with all the kids timelines) but most of this was Christmas holidays.

Onlyrainbows · 23/01/2022 09:40

For the 11yo I don't have to get out off the car btw

OP posts:
MoiraNotRuby · 23/01/2022 09:46

If you can do it without getting out of the car I think its OK. Will the nursery staff take the 2 yo to and from the car?

Lemons1571 · 23/01/2022 09:53

I would do it. The militant posters on here are a bit out of line with what’s actually happening in the real world in 2022.

Going to a highly populated poorly ventilated place when positive - no, not a great idea.

Taking lots of mitigating precautions and getting your kids to school while not leaving the car, now that we are 2 years in to all this - personal opinion is that this is fine and taking personal responsibility to limit spread.

If you’re following the science, there isn’t going to be a magic day at midnight in March, where the need to isolate per the rules moves from essential to unnecessary in one second flat.

Onlyrainbows · 23/01/2022 10:15

Nursery - no they wouldn't go and get him, there's sometimes nowhere to park. It's all done outside, never into a building.

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 23/01/2022 10:17

Yes, I would. Outside transmission is almost zero. Just keep away from people and wear a mask.

Indoors is what we need to worry about.
