When am I safe after exposure?

Apologises if this has been asked before but I am very anxious. I am CEV and my health is shit. Take two different types of immunosuppressants and seem to end up in hospital every time I catch a mild bug. I’ve had the flu twice despite having the vaccine every year and both times ended up in ICU so understandably I am very worried about catching COVID.

I am still being very careful.

I had close contact with a family member on Monday who tested positive on Wednesday. They were exposed to someone with it on the Sunday. I am four days after exposure and still negative on LFT. I know guidance is to do them every day for 7 days, does this mean I am in the safe zone then? Or is it ten days?

I’ve managed to avoid COVID up until now and I am very panicky so just trying to calm my nerves a little bit. All help appreciated because I can’t seem to find the info

I also spent the whole day with them, was in the car with them and hugged them so wasn’t just a brief encounter either

Im not sure, I would imagine that the 7 day lft rule is based on the fact that its more likely within the first 7 days? Certainly within the new variant we tested positive very soon after each other.

My eldest daughter is CV and the only person who so far hasn't caught it. First positive in our household was last Saturday and she is still negative today and absolutely no symptoms despite having very close contact with her sister in the days prior to and the day she tested positive.

Fingers crossed for you Thanks

OP if it helps I'm also on 2 immunosuppressants and didn't catch it when my DC had it even when they coughed in my face.
Currently in the same position in that DC tested positive on Mon and I'm still testing negative..

Firesidefox · 21/01/2022 21:46

I think if you're negative now you're fine. I wouldn't worry now.

Yesyesyesno · 22/01/2022 13:29

I tested positive today on LFT Sad

PCR ordered. Woke up with a migraine this morning but took my usual pain killers and it went away. Hoping that’s the only symptom I develop

Omicron is pretty mild for a lot of people. If you've had your vaccinations it's pretty unlikely to hospitalise you, even with your health conditions.

Nothingsfine · 22/01/2022 15:58

We're you emailed and sent a pcr to keep at home so that you could get treatment in the event you caught covid? Most immunosuppressed people have been.

I was sent a test but it is at my Mums due to an address mix up as I’ve forgotten to change it at the GP and that’s where I isolated throughout lock down.

I usually get treatment via my picc line in hospital twice a week. This isn’t life saving treatment but it greatly improves the symptoms of my heart condition. I’m presuming this can’t go ahead now as my life won’t be at risk if it stops, it will probably just make me poorly. Does anyone know? I will contact my cardiologist on Monday

Sorry, this must be such a worrying time for you. Please remember you are still far more likely to be okay and this new strain in particular seems to be causing less illness. I understand thats easy for me to say though. I hope you have a swift recovery Thanks

Thank you xx

I spoke to track & trace before who are getting someone to ring me back tomorrow to resend out the PCR I missed so they can test that for treatment.

I feel like shit. Temp is sitting at around 39.5 and I have full body aches. My resting heart rate is sitting between 130-150 which isn’t usual when I’m having a flare up. As it’s part of my condition it isn’t dangerous per say but I really hope it doesn’t go in for a full week. A bit sniffly but no cough so sounds like typical omicron which I am glad of.

I am equally worried about my CEV Grandfather who was also around the relative but for a lot shorter time than me and is still LFT negative.

In my experience you feel proper shit for about 4 days max. After that you get varying residual symptoms, e.g. ongoing fatigue or sinus cold, but don't feel as bad. Fingers crossed you're ok quickly.

That was exactly the same as our experience including my CV 16 year old who actually had the mildest symptoms out of anyone.

Fingers crossed you are out the worst of it soon @Yesyesyesno and your grandad manages to avoid it. Please don't worry about being a pain, ring 111 if you have concerns at any point. Im sure you will be feeling a bit brighter in a few days

Thought I would come back with a little update. COVID has been relatively mild for me. I had a 24 hour period where I had a high temp, severe body pains and headache but that’s cleared now. My throat is a bit sore but no cough or cold like symptoms.

I did however spend last night in hospital. My COVID may be mild but it’s caused havoc with the rest of my conditions. My HR has been sitting at about 180 whilst resting and my blood pressure fell through the floor last night. They had me in for some intravenous therapy and sorted out the other infusion I usually have. Home now and feeling slightly better today!

Also my Grandad never caught covid! Happy days Smile
