Chest infection following Covid

guesttest2 · 20/01/2022 16:53

Just a warning really - I'm on day 16 of Covid & from day 10 started to deteriorate & feel really breathless & unwell. The GP sent me to hospital & I have a secondary chest infection caused by Covid. It really is worth getting checked out if you're not improving. The Dr at the hospital said they're seeing a lot of people around day 15/16 who are unwell & who need antibiotics to clear chest infections.

That's been my experience as well. Although it's been reassuring that as someone who's ECV all I've needed is a mix of strong antibiotics, twice, last year and in 2020.

I'm sorry you've had this too. I was so surprised to feel worse as the days went on. I think all the talk of a mild illness had lulled me into a false sense of security!!

Exactly like me too!! Day 17, had a course of steroids now antibiotics - feel almost worse than I did when I was positive 😅 x

Yes, it was such a shock to start feeling worse rather than better!

My chest was bad for a good few weeks. Paracetamol was on overtime.

SweetFelicityArkright · 20/01/2022 23:33

Yes I had this, same timeline landing in hospital on day 15, I'd been back at work since day 11 and starting to feel ok but suddenly want back downhill with a cough and temperature that got worse.
Good news is that antibiotics and fluids set me right and although I do have a bit of an annoying tickly cough left over I'm otherwise fully recovered.

SaveThePennies · 20/01/2022 23:42

I'm day 14 and wondering whether to get some advice from my GP. My cough is driving me mad, I've also had awful ear and sinus pain. My throat is still sore - maybe from the coughing. Also a bit out of puff e.g. coming up the stairs.

I've had a mild temperature too - around 37.8 but was 38.4 yesterday.

I don't know if this is normal post covid, my dh bounced back fine. My LFT is still really strongly positive too. I do feel better than when I was mid covid but not improving as quick as I'd like to be!

Sorry to jump on your thread OP!

SaveThePennies - definitely get some advice from your GP I really wish had and that I'd started some antibiotics sooner. My husband and son bounced back at day 9/10 whereas I had a one good day & then deteriorated.
I'm sorry to read others have felt like this too. X

Just wanted to say thank you! Turns out I have a secondary bacterial infection, on antibiotics now.
IWishTheBishopWell · 22/01/2022 13:16

I needed antibiotics about 6 days in to shift a secondary chest infection too. I'm asthmatic and was still in my 10 days isolation (August '21) so 111 prescribed them over the phone. I rang my GP for advice on managing my asthma with Covid and was glad I did - she referred me to the Covid Monitoring Service who checked in on me by phone every day until around day 22 when I was deemed 'out of the danger zone'.

I then got a kidney infection later that month which took 2 courses of antibiotics to shift. I've currently got about my 6th or 7th UTI since August.

Hope you're feeling better soon OP.
