Have I got the covid rules right?

My DS symptoms started Friday, tested positive Sunday morning. Was fine by Monday. Negative lateral flow today (Wed). Can I send him back into school tomorrow (day 6) if his lateral flow is negative? Is this now the rules for school, specifically, or is it still 10 days for school? Our school is completely uncommunicative- ignores emails, ignores phone.

Yes that is correct. Friday was his day zero.

HannibalHeyes · 20/01/2022 01:02

No, the new rules are; if you're immunocompromised, or in any way susceptible to catching covid - fuck you.

That's basically what the government has announced today.

Aren't you glad you voted for him, because he seems quite a laugh?

OP is asking a question, stop being such a dick.

Yes that's correct OP.

Maybe start you own thread rather than disrupting one where the OP had a very clear specific question? Angry

@HannibalHeyes stop being an arse. Start your own thread.

@Madness5 yes, you are correct. If your ds is negative today he may go back to school tomorrow. This is what I sent as a message to parents the other day.

MichelleScarn · 20/01/2022 06:44

@Madness5 sorry I didn't even answer your question as was so annoyed at pp! That type of snarkiness will really drive anxiety in people. Thankfully @Longdistance has direct experience for you there!

Madness5 · 20/01/2022 06:46

Thanks all!! Off to school he goes!

Oh sorry, goes to school day seven? Not day six?

OP posts:
ChuckMater · 20/01/2022 06:49

He can go today OP aslong as lft is neg :)

Jossbow · 20/01/2022 07:02

Doesnt he have to wiggle a Neg on day 6 AND 7, to be released before day 10?

Maybe its all changed again

Message from NHS:

You can begin taking lateral flow tests from day 5 in your self-isolation period.

If you have a negative test result for 2 days in a row, and do not have a high temperature, you can stop testing and end self-isolation early.

I guess day six is ok? Not very clear!

What a ridiculous post. You sound a barrel of laughs Hmm How does that answer op's very sensible question about her child returning to school?

And before you start, I'm a teacher (so very much in the firing line for covid) with a cev dh.

Rules changed on Monday. Now it’s release on day 6 if lft 2 consecutive - tests on day 5.

Op off to school ;)

ENoeuf · 20/01/2022 07:15

General rules are day 0 - test day or symptom day whichever came last.
Test on day 5 and day 6 - self isolation stops after the second negative test. So if positive day 5 and negative day 6 you would test again on day 7 etc. after 10 days (excl day 0) you can leave self isolation - if you still have a fever call for medical advice and stay isolating.
Healthcare slightly different but doesn’t apply here.

ENoeuf · 20/01/2022 07:16

I think what is confusing people is the 10 full days stops at 23:59 whereas the early release is after the second LFD.

Madness5 · 20/01/2022 07:31

Thanks all - I was sitting there wondering if it was just me being dozy. Very confusing indeed!

Flocon · 20/01/2022 07:33

Weirdly the first day is day 0 I think

Can't deal with the maths tbh

Lifeisforliving1 · 20/01/2022 07:35

I believe you test on day 5 and if that is negative, you can have another test before you go out on day 6. If that's negative then you can go out on day 6.

AlandAnna · 20/01/2022 07:36

Yes, if you test negative on day 5 and 6 you can go out on day 6. I’m taking my day 5 in a bit Brew everything crossed!

CA0932017 · 20/01/2022 07:38

The first day is day zero, day 1 is the next day so yes if he has another negative lft's he can go back today... it does seem crazy, but yes well within the rules to be back by tomorrow.

Dd is on round 2 or covid in a month. Last month she still had a line on lft right at the end despite being asymptomatic. Her day 5 is tomorrow - praying there's no lines so she can go back school Monday! She's not ill at all...
