Covid twice in 2 months?

Imthecaffeinequeen · 19/01/2022 21:10

Dd tested positive end of November last year. Since then has had multiple negative lateral flows (tested at schools request due to confirmed cases)
Today she came out of school coughing, so I did an lft and it came up with a blazing positive.

So I am presuming this is a new infection, has anyone else had covid twice so close together?!

I Had it in September and again this week but not as close as your poor dds

I thought she might of had some sort of immunity for a while but it appears not. She's only 7 and feeling a bit sorry for herself tonight Sad She was fine this morning, the cough has obviously come on during the day. Thank you for your response!

I’m not sure if you’re my DD’s friend but this exact scenario has just happened to her! Maybe it’s not so rare…

MrsGaskthrill · 19/01/2022 21:26

Meant ‘if your DD is my DD’s friend’ !

GoldenFondue · 19/01/2022 21:30

I know of 2 unrelated people this week who have tested postive after having covid in November.

Grin I don't think so as I've not had a chance to inform the school of the result yet!

Ah ok, appears it is more common than I thought then.

Pre omicron it was rare to test positive a 2nd time in less than 3-6 months.
Omicron has changes that you can literaly recover from covid be negative for several days and then catch covid again. Lots of posts on here about this.

It is assumed first infection is delta and next infection in omicron. But what we dont know yet is if you can keep gettig omicron over and over. Hopefully not.

Addotionally, if you test positive a 2nd , 3rd or 4th time these dont count in daily cases so with all the reinfection the number is far higher than reported.
Deaths only count if within 28days of first infection too on daily update.
Oh and wales and scotland lft numbers arent included in daily cases.

JanglyBeads · 19/01/2022 22:52

It's thought the current rate of reinfections is about 10-15% of cases. These are very soon going to be counted in the daily case numbers.

My DS has tested positive twice, about three months apart.

MrsGaskthrill · 20/01/2022 08:04

I heard it from the DD’s mum on the WhatsApp group! But I think she has let the school know and this seems more common than I thought so I guess I probably don’t know you!

MrsGaskthrill · 20/01/2022 08:06

@Covidworries that’s interesting about the stats. Nearly everyone I know has had it more than once now but not usually closer than 6 months

alwayswantchocolate · 20/01/2022 09:28

Yes, I heard yesterday that the DS of a work colleague has tested positive again with just a 6 week gap between infections.

bagofconkers · 20/01/2022 09:53

"Reinfection risk from Omicron 16 times higher than Delta, ONS data indicates. Latest COVID data from the Office for National Statistics shows the rate for all reinfections has increased since early December 2021 - likely driven by the rapid spread of the new variant."

November was more than likely to be Delta, and now is more than likely to be Omicron which is frustrating for those that had it in the autumn.

(If it was December, the question would be were you infected when the Omicron rates were escalating rapidly in your area)

The people I've heard reporting repeat infections have been with different varients rather than the same type twice. Obviously early days on Omicron, but it does trigger its own levels of immunity.

DS3 13 had positive PCR in middle of October, got another positive one on 5th Jan.
Different symptoms both times.
Whole house got it in Jan but just him in October.
Hope she's feeling better soon

I’m a community support worker and I’ve tested positive every single time I’ve done a test in the last few months. I’ve stopped testing now and won’t do so again unless I get symptoms. I’m around Covid patients every day and I can’t isolate indefinitely.
