What's it like to have Covid?

My son has been a close contact with someone who has tested positive.

Im just wondering what symptoms you've had if you're triple jabbed and also what your children's symptoms were? And how severe.

Is there anything I can buy over the counter that will help symptoms? Anything that you found works particularly well?

Im hoping that we will escape but we will be testing daily.

Thanks

DD just had it and she had no more than a sore head and a bit of a blocked nose for a few days. Hopefully your DS won't suffer too badly.

dementedpixie · 19/01/2022 08:22

Dh is triple jabbed and had a scratchy throat, runny nose and mild headache. He never needed any pain relief. Noone else in the house caught it

Daisy829 · 19/01/2022 08:23

My DH & DD currently have it. DD has a tiny bit of snot. DH is a bit lightheaded but they are fine so far. My BF also has it and she has cold like symptoms. I would stock up on paracetamol & make sure you have nice juice in to keep fluids up.

Crackingowlsanctuary · 19/01/2022 08:27

Like a very mild cold for 4 in our house, sniffly nose, bit blocked up, scratchy throat. Mine started with a few mild aches in my lower back too that went after the first couple of days. My primary age dd presented more like a stomach bug, was sick twice on day 1 then was absolutely fine and back to normal after that.

Blubells · 19/01/2022 08:30

My teen DD had a sore though and stuffy nose for 3-4 days.

SquigglePigs · 19/01/2022 08:31

I'm triple jabbed and I'm just coming to the end of my isolation after testing positive last week. I've had a bad head for a week and a stuffy nose. Friday to Sunday I felt utterly awful, coughing so much I was sick, shaky, exhausted, could barely lift my head up. Then Monday I started to feel better and it's been a steady improvement since. I still have a headache, slightly stuffy nose and not a lot of energy but improving quickly. Oh, and I couldn't taste anything at all from Thursday evening to Monday morning, then it started to come back but it's still a bit muted. I've tested negative since yesterday.

DH is triple jabbed and he tested positive on Monday - he's got a bit of a stuffy nose and is a little more tired than usual but mostly he's ok. He always did have a better immune system than me!

3 yr old DD had a slight temp for 24 hrs and was a bit clingy and off her food last weekend but otherwise has been absolutely fine.

Agree fluids and paracetamol have been really helpful; and as much rest as you can manage.

Bloatstoat · 19/01/2022 08:37

We have all had it - DS6 (temperature for a couple of days, cold symptoms, lost appetite), DD2 (temperature for an afternoon, headache that day, fine after that), baby DD (temperature for 2 days and v snotty but not too unwell with it, happy and alert and smiling throughout), triple jabbed DH (headache, has developed cold symptoms and cough). I've had a runny nose since the weekend, doing daily LFTs and got a positive yesterday, I'm triple jabbed too. The children were all far more ill with a non covid virus in October, DD2 ended up in A&E with breathing difficulty.
Hope you avoid it, or find it similarly not too bad if you get it!

Amberheartkitty · 19/01/2022 08:37

We have all had it. 4 children age ranging from 4-13. None of the children had bad symptoms. Felt off for no longer than 1 day. I felt tired and headache for one day. Husband milked it for all it was worth and still pretends he’s sick now. Hmm

Pegasussnail · 19/01/2022 08:39

I'm triple jabbed. Have it at the moment. Slight watery eyes. Mild (very mild) headache and sneezing a bit.

I haven't taken anything for it so far but going to take something this morning (paracetamol)
Kids are not vaccinated and similar symptoms.

mumofone234 · 19/01/2022 08:50

I've got it at the moment and am on day 3 - so far it's just been a very slight headache, a very snotty nose, and feeling a bit clammy. I've woken up today with a bit of a scratchy throat. I've only taken paracetamol once so far, and had to have a really early night on the first day because I was tired. I'd suggest some honey and lemons, some Lemsips maybe, and - as others have suggested - paracetamol. I'd also bought some sterile saltwater spray for congestion just beforehand, and I've been using that.

Intothelight123 · 19/01/2022 09:36

Thanks all, it seems like a pretty standard cold then really.

Little concerned about my son as he always get really ill when he gets any kind of cough or cold, but hopefully it's not too bad.

If it helps at all, my son (4) has asthma and he had no breathing-related symptoms at all. No cough, or anything like that. He just had a snotty nose for a couple of days, a fever on one night, and was a bit tired and grouchy. So try not to worry too much.

MargeIsBack · 19/01/2022 10:09

I have it now. Feels like a really bad head cold, with a scratchy throat that is making my voice funny. Symptoms started on Monday. Worse than I thought it would be. I am triple jabbed.

Two kids are both asymptomatic. Older one has had 1 jab.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 19/01/2022 10:10

Anyone else who tested positive peeing like a cart horse?
Not drinking anymore than normal.

CA0932017 · 19/01/2022 10:15

It really depends.

We all had it early December.

Dp double jabbed at the time had a headache and shivers the first day then better the next , slight cold symptoms and lost his smell/taste for 3 days. Not ill at all after the first day. Was gardening and cutting the grass as was going mad at home.

DS 10 was next, he was snotty, sore throat, off food and generally lethargic which only lasted a day or two. He did lose his smell and taste and was off food for a while.

Me next... double jabbed at the time and had the second jab in May, so a long gap of 7 months in between second jab and covid. Mine was achey legs to start with, tickly cough but not chesty at all, intense sinus pain and burning but painkillers took the edge off buy my head, face, cheeks and teeth were throbbing (I have sinus issues anyway so probably to be expected), totally blocked nose and often sneezy, like a bad head cold really. Had normal energy levels until near the end. Totally lost smell/taste and only just come back fully and have good/bad days.

Dd 6 caught it last and was totally asymptomatic.

Not one of us had a fever. Dp felt shivery the first day for a few hours but temperature was normal. I felt shivery too but no actual temperature.

but Dd has caught it again this week from school with mild cold symptoms - none of the main three symptoms.

My kids are the same with colds. Seem to get really poorly with usual colds and hacking coughs. But covid was really mild for them as my pp!

When my son gets a cold he coughs for eeekd after. He had the slightest non continuous cough ever with covid which only lasted a few days! Didn't linger at all!

mumofone234 · 19/01/2022 10:19

@drinkingwineoutofamug, yes! I assumed that I must be drinking more than normal without realising it. I'm waking up in the night to wee too.

Not waking at night, but it's all day. Been up 3 hours and been 5 times! Only had 1 coffee and a tea. 250ml mug 🤷🏻‍♀️

mumofone234 · 19/01/2022 10:28

I guess it must be doing something helpful (flushing out in some way?!) Hmm

Google Covid and urinary frequency, it's a missed symptom! At least I don't have blisters on my hands and feet this time round
Mamabear12 · 19/01/2022 10:51

My 2 dc ages 8 and almost 10 had minor symptoms. My son was tired one evening and felt warm (my dh did not take his temperature and I was not with them). Next day he was back to normal so we never suspected covid....until days later my sister family also got it (they were staying with them). Anyway, my dd then also tested positive and no symptoms at all. I had a sore throat, which turned into aches, headache, muscle fatigue by day 3. I had fever 3 days, the aches lingered on until now I am day 11 or 12 and still do not feel great. But mildly better every day....so I am hoping soon I will feel normal again.

KNain · 19/01/2022 10:57

My 5 year old has it at the moment. He's on day 4 and no-one else has caught it (yet).

Mostly fine during the day, wouldn't really know anything was wrong except he's not really eating much and the smell of all food makes him feel sick.

At night, his breathing is definitely heavier, and he wakes up at about 3am projectile vomiting.

So, based on our experience, stock up on washing power!
