Hi my son 11 had covid on the 8 th December, all good now and back to school. Looking forward to things returning back to normal with returning to school and work. Now his friend from has been told he has covid. What happens now? Do we need to do the testing with him? Or carry on as normal. We are in Scotland

What sort of contact has he had?
If its non household contact I don't think he has to isolate or anything

dementedpixie · 18/01/2022 20:28

If they do get notified as a close contact they can LFT for 7 days instead of isolating

Not sure what guidance is in Scotland. How much contact has he had with friend?

You don't have to test him if no symptoms, especially if he's had it but please be cautious. Dd had tested positive on the 15th December with no symptoms, she caught it off me & dp... this week she has got new covid/cold symptoms and tested positive again after a huge outbreak in her class. Reinfection can sadly happen so soon especially with different variants.

The friend only got tested the past few hours lft. So the school or trac and track haven’t been in contact as he prob hasn’t been for a pcr yet He was playing with the boy this morning, but the boy felt ill a lot later and got sent home. My work is going to be fed up with me, I need to take unpaid leave too. Sick of all this now!!!

All our family were of with covid from the 8th December, we all caught it at the same time.

You dont need to take unpaid leave as its unlikely a school contact would be told to isolate. Also he can take daily LFTs (if identified as a contact) and still go to school if they are negative

dementedpixie · 18/01/2022 20:46

Think this is the Scottish flowchart

Child school and covid
dementedpixie · 18/01/2022 20:47

And he only has to daily test if told to do so

Pinkandpink · 18/01/2022 20:48

Oh thank you for your advice. I can sleep tonight!

Unless hes been an overnight contact he isn't a close contact. As under 18s are close contacts to each other from playing with each other/being in class etc.

You most likely will not be contacted by test and protect.

Close contacts would test daily for 7 days if test and protect say they are to.

This is for Scotland.

Dinoboymama · 18/01/2022 20:52

Under 18s are not*

Pinkandpink · 18/01/2022 21:26

Thank you

Scotland here! Following a case in DDs class we got the public health letter describing her as a "low risk" contact. Advice was to be vigilant for symtoms and encourage child to LFT if possible. We don't have to do anything else at this stage.

shouldistop · 19/01/2022 06:15

Ds1 has had a few people in his class test positive over the past few months. I only know because of our group WhatsApp. School / test and trace have never been in contact about it.
