How are schools doing?

I know news is cases are falling but at DS school it's gone CRAZY.

Basically half the school are positive, including kids and teachers previously infected. Bubbles are shut as there aren't enough staff. It's a Primary school.

Is this the same for others or just here?

Our school has been hit badly - mainly staff. We would have to close if it wasn’t for supply teachers

Parker231 · 17/01/2022 16:24

I’m a school governor - single form entry primary school - central London. we’re having a meeting this evening (meetings seem to be weekly at the moment) to discuss closing reception and year one as there aren’t enough teachers and TA’s and no supply teachers available.

AgnesNaismith · 17/01/2022 16:25

Secondary is ok, primary is riddled!

Blubells · 17/01/2022 16:26

Our secondary school is doing much better now. Cases are falling and most classes are running normal.

We're In London.

Blubells · 17/01/2022 16:28

Are they well enough to come back I to school after 5 days?

JugglingJanuary · 17/01/2022 16:29

Indie seniors is doing ok.

Mid & primary finding it tough.

Friends infants, Juniors & Secondary buckling with staff shortages and lack of supply staff. Talking about how best to deal with it.

I suggested sending them in to the chambers & No10/11, but decided that wasn't fair.

The kids don't deserve that, not even the little rat bags!!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/01/2022 16:31

Had a text message about a case in DS's class last week but nothing else.

JugglingJanuary · 17/01/2022 16:31

I need to look more carefully at the figures again.

But they're not dropping as quickly as the 'news' woukd have you believe because numbers of tests have dropped too.

withgraceinmyheart · 17/01/2022 16:32

Our primary has loads of case, one year group only 6 kids out of 30. Staff seem to be ok, only 1 off that I know of.

SellFridges · 17/01/2022 16:34

Our primary has 1/4 of kids out today. But it all seems to be in those years not previously hit. Y6 only have a couple out for example, but Y2 are decimated.

LadyCleathStuart · 17/01/2022 16:36

our primary is fine so far

lumpofcomfort · 17/01/2022 16:37

Loads at my primary.

It’s negative lft for two days, not ‘well enough’
Bananarice · 17/01/2022 16:45

Last week ds1 was a close contact of covid positive child.

This week I got an email saying ds2 has been identified as a close contact to a teacher with covid positive pcr.

I have no idea about anyones else.

mumsneedwine · 17/01/2022 16:47

Secondaries seem to be doing better. Weird that they are also the ones with vaccinated kids. Seems those things work !

QueenofLouisiana · 17/01/2022 16:53

Several classes have 50% of kids testing positive. We are under additional restrictions from public health.

Astonishing as none of the kids are vaccinated.

Januarypip · 17/01/2022 17:15

Lots are still testing positive past day 5, often and until day 10

Although I feel better knowing it's not just our school.

Feel SO sorry for the teachers

Secondary is fine. I suspect because a huge proportion have had their first jab which takes the edge off.

Primary school, not so fine. Cases in every year.

firef1y · 17/01/2022 17:21

My youngest's class is up to 5 off atm, but one of those will be back tomorrow as he's tested negative on days 5 and 6.
The important point is that not one of the children off is symptomatic, each was only caught by regular lfts. The class was hit quite badly last term, around half the class had it over a couple of weeks plus their teacher, again children were all asymptomatic and the (elderly) teacher was back in within 2 weeks. My son somehow managed to dodge it last time, hopefully he'll dodge it again.

firef1y · 17/01/2022 17:22

My older son is in a special needs secondary, only 8 to a class. I got an urgent email to (attempt to) lft him at the weekend as one of his teachers is positive.

itwasntaparty · 17/01/2022 17:23

Our school is closed because of norovirus!

Covid wise December was a nightmare, pretty much everyone in the school have had it now. London.

pastypirate · 17/01/2022 17:25

We had a big old cluster before Xmas on both my dds schools - now all clear

EmmaGellerGreen · 17/01/2022 17:26

Large secondary, about 1600 students, just 23 students and one member of staff.
