Boosters running out?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but if you had your booster around October, as many people did, then the ten week period where it’s effective is now coming to and end. What happens next?

Cases where I am are very very high, and with changes to the rules on isolation etc it feels like a risky time to be left with reduced protection Confused

Are there any plans for another booster for the groups this affects? Most of them are vulnerable to begin with, which is why they were boosted that early!

This was the latest I read on it. No fourth jab yet. Don't know if it has changed since then

It won't "run out". Protection from infection starts waning around 10 weeks but protection against severe disease is thought to last much, much longer.

I was thinking this last night. Many of the people must vulnerable to serious illness/death from Covid (my parents included) had their booster months ago. Just as we decide to let Covid run free in society these vulnerable people will have lower immunity than the healthier younger population. I don't feel entirely comfortable with this...

I work in a care home and the staff and residents had it about October.

Cookerhood · 17/01/2022 10:39

Your T cells will still be giving you protection against serious disease even if your antibodies are waning (I had mine in October too). It's possible that the T cell response to the AZ vaccine will be lifelong.

@BlackInk This is exactly what I’m thinking. My parents are also in this group. So basically we’re mid-Omicron wave, which we know is more infectious than previous variants, with case numbers through the roof and Plan B restrictions about to be lifted, and all the people vulnerable enough to have their jab by October-ish now have waning immunity. This scenario seemed so ridiculous that I convinced myself I must have missed an announcement somewhere about another booster for these groups!

Your t-cells will pick up the slack anyway, even when antibodies wane which is what happens with the jabs.

Montague22 · 17/01/2022 10:43

I’ve thought this I’m 14 weeks post booster.
I had mine early October. I remember worrying schools were back and I was due a booster.

What’s ridiculous is that the most vulnerable people, those who got a third primary dose, still haven’t all had their boosters. They should have been eligible by December but most weren’t because the third primary dose was screwed up.
Cookerhood · 17/01/2022 17:00

Plenty of the immunocompromised are getting their boosters now (most had their 3rd primary in October).
Please remember that immunity isn't all about antibodies.
