Vaccination guidance if close contact.

Can anyone point me to any guidance on having the vaccine if someone in your household is positive. My daughter went for her second vaccination today she did a lateral flow before she went which was negative but they refused her as I have had covid since Last Sunday. They have told her to come back in 28 days. I am really confused as searching everywhere I cannot find any guidance on this.

I don’t know what the guidance is but I don’t think you can have the vaccine if you have the virus and, as she could have the virus (LFT could be inaccurate/ virus may not be detectable yet if she does have it), it makes sense that she’s been asked to come back.

CrapDrawer · 16/01/2022 17:18

Also, there’s a risk she could pass on the virus while there.

Angel2702 · 16/01/2022 17:21

They are close contacts with people everyday at school. They didn’t even ask at any vaccine if we’d been a close contact. Only if we’d had it in the past 12 weeks or if we had current symptoms.

sheeplikessleep · 16/01/2022 17:29

I went for my booster when DS3 had covid. I phoned up 119 and told as long as I was negative on LFT and not displaying any symptoms, I was fine to go and get jabbed. Wasn’t asked about being a close contact when I went either.

sheeplikessleep · 16/01/2022 17:30

Sorry I didn’t answer your question OP, but I struggled to find anything online about it.

Missymoo99 · 16/01/2022 18:03

Glad it's not just me that can't find any info, felt like I was going round in circles trying to find out something that backed up what they said. It seems it depends on vaccination centre 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just don't understand why the 28 day wait, she has no symptoms now and I'm free to go out and about from Thursday!

They asked my dh/ds if there had been contact with covid in the last 28 days when he took ds for his 2nd jab. I think they lied though and said 'no' even though dh had had it the week before. The rest of us stayed negative.

Missymoo99 · 16/01/2022 18:06

@CrapDrawer but surely that could apply to anyone that goes for their vaccine especially if they are at schools where it's been rife. She has been daily lat flowing and following all guidelines, I will rebook for 4 weeks time, but just wish there was more information online or my husband wouldn't have wasted time and taken her today

Or just lie

Missymoo99 · 16/01/2022 18:07

@dementedpixie wish we had of lied now 😬she's not happy with me, like it's my fault I have covid 🤦‍♀️

Can your daughter try a different walk in centre? For my booster I wasn't asked anything about being a close contact, just if I'd had covid myself recently.

In actual fact I'd had a new close contact every day for a while just before getting my booster.

OssomMummy1 · 16/01/2022 20:59

The incubation period for COVID after exposure to a positive person is 14 days. So, if your DD has not developed any symptoms for 2 weeks from last contact, then she is unlikely to develop any symptoms.

OssomMummy1 · 16/01/2022 21:01

@dementedpixie

Or just lie
Shame you are asking others to lie .

DH is simply lucky. If he develops brain clots, he will not know whether he developed It due to infection or vaccination. Then people start milking nhs for compensation.

Missymoo99 · 16/01/2022 21:07

@OssomMummy1 this post is not about my DH he is fully vaccinated and had his booster as have I (but unfortunately still contracted covid) I was merely asking if anyone had found any guidance online and why we have been advised to wait 28 days, I'm not sure why you have mentioned blood clots and compensation

Your DD lives with you which means she is daily exposed to you and your aerosols. Your risk of transmitting the virus to others reduces from almost 100% on day 1 to 5% on day 10 and zero on day 14 (unless you are immunosuppressed or immuncompromised). As a precaution, they said 14 days from last date of exposure , which is day 14 of your illness. hence 28 days.
Missymoo99 · 16/01/2022 21:09

Please could you point me to where it actually states this as I cannot find it anywhere online myself

Think they're just making stuff up to suit themselves tbh

Sincere apologies. That reply was meant to be for dementedpixie, who posted saying her DH got the vaccine by lying. Sorry 😞

dementedpixie · 16/01/2022 21:14

My dh didn't get a vaccine by lying. My ds got the vaccine after dh had finished his isolation for covid

Maybe read my posts properly

SeedsSeedsSeeds · 16/01/2022 22:10

I was a close contact of someone with confirmed covid when I went for my booster and they were fine about it. I called beforehand and they said no issues. I don't know why that would be any different for second jab.

FannyFifer · 17/01/2022 08:46

Unless u have tested positive for Covid in the last 28 days for over 18s or 12 weeks for under 18s then u can get vaccinated.
