Covid twice in just over a month?

Tested positive for covid on PCR in early December. Symptoms started with sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, then a change in my taste(went off loads of food) and then a cough.

During the entire illness I never once tested positive on lateral flow. No one else in my house caught it. I had to chase up my pcr result after 3 days. They couldn't find a result so sent my details to the escalation team and within an hour my positive result came through (adding this detail as at the time it made me wonder how they'd suddenly found it so fast)

Friday DD1 became ill and tested positive on lateral flow. Saturday I became ill and also tested positive, today DD2 tested positive.

I feel like absolute crap and I'm in no doubt this is covid and it seems to be sweeping through our house. But is it possible for me to have had it twice within just over a month?

Depending on where you live the early Dec infection might have still been delta and now it would most likely be omicron so possible to catch it twice in quick succession. It is also possible that the previous pcr was incorrect, we will never know.

I wish I'd gone for a 2nd pcr back in Dec now as I had doubts at the time. However the illness wasn't like a normal cold I've ever had before because of the change in taste. I've never gone off certain foods before.

It could be different strains. You're right, I'll probably never know

Same dilemma with Dd. She had asymptomatic covid in mid December. Outbreak in her class in the last week. She has a sore throat and positive lft today 😪😪

IndigoC · 16/01/2022 20:42

I’d guess you had Delta in December and have Omicron now, OP. Very bad luck but plausible.

3wisepigeons · 16/01/2022 21:35

@IndigoC yes I guess that could be the case. When I had it in December Omicron was just starting to kick off. I know a few people who had Omicron around mid December (I wasn't in contact with them) and they were told the strain they had. I wasn't told the strain but then I don't think they fully profile every PCR

Yes. I am hearing of this from friends. Mostly kids who had it just before Christmas and are sick again now.

This is worrying. It’s the second thread on this.

3wisepigeons · 18/01/2022 00:14

I'm on the way up now thank goodness but DH is now starting to get really ill.

I've also heard ofa couple of other people now who've had it twice in a short period of time

My kids have it again after having it in November. I didn't get it in November. I have it this time Confused. I'm triple jabbed

HSHorror · 18/01/2022 09:17

Op yes ive seen several people have it about 5w apart.
But with the lost results and negstive lft maybe you didnt have it before.
As you also seem to have a positive lft this time.

Elderflowervioletrose · 18/01/2022 10:32

Yes! Ds had it early December and has just tested positive again yesterday, he is asymptomatic at the moment. Dd also had it in December, showing mild symptoms today waiting on her PCR results now, she had neg LFT Confused

BogRollBOGOF · 18/01/2022 10:51

If it's Delta and Omicron that makes it more likely.

A lot of people also picked up Omicron very soon after their boosters. I picked it up less than 3 weeks after mine.

whojamaflip · 18/01/2022 11:18

Just back from taking dd for a PCR Sad

She had Covid at the start of December completely asymptomatic and only picked up on routine lft. Confirmed on PCR.

Woke up this morning with high temp, sore throat and coughing her head off, lft negative but booked her a PCR to be sure. Half her year are off isolating and most of her sports team have tested positive over the last 5 days or so.

So far the rest of the household has escaped.....

itsacovidxmasone · 18/01/2022 11:28

I wonder if the asymptotic cases that were positive on LFTs were followed up by PCRs? I say this as many of us have had false positives on flow flex brand of LFTs so it could be a false result on that?

CA0932017 · 18/01/2022 11:42

I posted on this the other day but Dd has now been confirmed positive twice since start of December. Everyone keeps saying old infection is being picked up but she has new symptoms, most of her class have it and postive lft's. 119 said it's happening a lot and it's most definitely a new infection! She was asymptomatic the first time.

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 18/01/2022 12:00

Just under 2 months here, so far only one positive, triple vaccinated adults and children all too young to be vaccinated. Child is infected just like last time.

whojamaflip · 18/01/2022 13:00

Dd is negative so looks like it's a cold this time round - had her results through in under 4 hours too so super quick turn around!
