Dd had covid last month 5 weeks ago, we all had it in the house. Most of her class apart from a small few have covid right now, outbreak since the start of term!

Dd woke up complaining of a sore throat and snotty. Did an lft on her and it had the faintest of lines. Did another and negative!

I did 2 earlier in the week and negative but now one faint positive so likely she has it again as been exposed to so many kids with it.

119 have said I don't need to do a pcr as she's had a positive lft so she's positive but she's since had a negative lft. So should I do a pcr? Despite it being within 90 days.

Has anyone pcr tested within 90 days and an accurate result? Has anyone tested negative after having a pcr within 90 days?

Have you registered the test result? If so, a PCR won’t matter even after if it’s negative. She’ll be classed as postive and required to isolate.

It’s difficult because if your child has new symptoms then strictly speaking, yes they could have a new infection. However the symptoms you describe are not the ‘top 3’ and as a result, I personally wouldn’t have tested as they can continue to test positive within 90 of a positive PCR.

I won’t be retesting in the next 3 months unless I have one of the top 3 and even then, only if I am really unwell.

I think now you have the positive LFT they are supposed to isolate.

You can't have another PCR within 90 days as you risk a false positive and then have to isolate

JanglyBeads · 16/01/2022 17:46

DfE has advised that children should test for school even if within 90 days.

No one will actually be able to answer yr question as to whether they've tested on PCR within 90 days and got an "accurate result" - unless they've been diagnosed by a doctor in hospital as positive despite negative PCRs.

Sorry should have said DfE have advised that children should test using LFT for school

MarieG10 · 16/01/2022 17:48

@JanglyBeads ..I work in a hospital and our swabbing centre refuse point blank to retest as the viral remains have a high chance of triggering false positives. They must be ignoring the guidance maybe?

This is nit the advice since omicron, it's to PCR for new symptoms and for travel if required.
JanglyBeads · 16/01/2022 17:50

@MarieG10 don't know!

Palavah · 16/01/2022 17:57

Yes, i tested negative (PCR) 3.5 weeks after testing positive (PCR).

As PP said, register the negative lat flow test.

I don’t know the answer but I’ve asked DS’ school because we’re in a similar situation (8+9 kids in two classes, plus staff), some are on round 2, and we don’t know if we are supposed to do a LFT going forward
I can let you know when I get an answer!
In the meantime, I would keep the child at home whilst you keep an eye on symptoms (they’re not going to do much at school anyway!) and test with more than one brand, if you happen to have boxes.
