She's got covid again hasn't she?

Dd had covid in December just over a month ago. Caught off me and dp. She was totally asymptomatic and finished isolating 25th December. Most of her class have got covid since going back to school.

Despite that we shouldn't test for 90 days. I did 2 earlier in the week which were negative. Today she has the faintest line imaginable. Have to squint to see it...

She is also complaining of sore throat and a bit snotty.

So she's got it again, hasn't she? 😪

Couldn't come at a worse time tbh!

Not worried about the illness. It was all very mild last time. It's the isolation, missing school and loss of earnings.

How long after you did the test did the line appear?

SomethingSuss · 16/01/2022 12:44

Could easily be the new variant which presents differently apparently. Sore throat and cold symptoms rather than the "loss of taste and smell, a fever and continuous cough" one.
Mine was a scratchy throat and slightly sore chest when I coughed to clear it. No coughing fits or anything though.

We had the cold symptoms last month so thought we had omicron then.. Dd was asymptomatic but for me and dp it was cold symptoms and sore throats...

Is it possible to get it again so soon? There is an outbreak at DSs nursery and he now has a cold, but I assumed he was safe as he had it a month ago (same as your DD, totally asymptomatic).

I know that LFT are fine to do within 90 days, it's PCRs they advise against.

Andtheyalllookjustthesame · 16/01/2022 13:34

If it's a really faint line then I wouldn't worry about it. It might be an evap line or something. She shouldn't have it again that quickly. And you aren't meant to text for 90days for a reason, fake positives but also you will still have lots of antibodies do very unlikely to have it again so fast. After months maybe, not 4 weeks

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/01/2022 13:38

You are supposed to test within the 90 days if you have new symptoms and that's pcr tests

I'd say it's likely if ages Been testing negative with lfts up till now. I'd take another in 24 hours and see if it's getting darker

Covidworries · 16/01/2022 13:48

yes you can get it that quickly again.

malteser1212 · 16/01/2022 13:56

My DD had Covid end of Dec / early Jan. She was complaining of sore throat, headache and had a temperature. Took a test and had the faintest of lines within 30 minutes - like you say, had to squint to see it. I wasn't convinced and thought maybe she'd eaten something so we tested again an hour later - a strong line came up instantly.

Ck2992 · 16/01/2022 14:12

Thanks all. Has come out at the worst time for us imaginable as a family 😪

J haven't been doing regular lft's on her. We did one on day 8 of her isolation couple days before Christmas and she still had a line. Not done one between then and last week. Last Sunday she negative, also on Tuesday too! Haven't done one since snd cases had slowed down in her class, no symptoms and she's just had it...

All buy a small handful of her class have it so likely she does have it again even though I've done another lft which is negative. Will d another in the morning and pcr I think....

Yes my son caught it two months later. Had i assume delta back in nov and had i assume omicron start of jan there. I also had omicron but negative for delta. Typical symptoms you describe - snotty nose, sneezing, going off food and bit. Im so sorry OP i know how hard it is frequently having to self isolate especially when kids then get it aswell

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 16/01/2022 14:47

It's difficult when it's been so soon since she last had it, some people are saying they've had positive lft followed by negative and negative pcr.

It's a risk that the pcr will be positive still from last time she had it but don't think there's much else you can do if she has symptoms and some of the class have it

It's going to be a real nightmare if people are catching omicron so quickly after having it

brogueish · 16/01/2022 15:31

DH had it mid December and has just tested positive again with new symptoms. It was one month exactly between the positive tests, with plenty of negatives in between - he has to test for work. So yes,

That sucks. Hope he's okay and not feeling too poorly 💕
