Is there a link? Has anyone else had shingles in the last 2 years that they believe is linked to having/had Covid?

I had shingles earlier on in the first year of the pandemic. Not long after I suspect I had Covid (not widely testing back then so unconfirmed) wondered if any others had it

I had booster on 5 December - I’ve had a very itchy area under boob where bra sits and first thought I had been bitten by something. I now believe this is a shingles flare up skin looks as though may have been some tiny blisters. Have been feeling very very tired. I have Gp appointment for something else next week and will be mentioning it

Yes I had shingles but don’t know if it was vaccine related or Covid related.

ForTheLoversOutThere · 15/01/2022 02:10

Basically Covid and anything is possible, because covid makes the immune system vulnerable

Friend had shingles very badly 2 weeks after second jab. Was very sure it was connected.

I had exactly the same about a week after my Moderna booster on 8th December, patch of shingles under my boob, I thought I had been bitten at first or it was some strange heat rash but on close examination it looked a bit blistery after a few days and looked like shingles on googling. I didn't see a GP as it was mild and didn't seem to be spreading.

Interesting. I had covid at the start of November and my partner had shingles shortly afterwards, but he consistently tested negative (on LFT) for covid.

My daughter had Covid in November and as we isolated together I thought I would get it. Didn’t at all but on day 5 for her it kick started a flare up of shingles for me (I get them frequently, maybe twice a year). It was like my immune system was fighting off Covid infection and that brought it on. I also had it on the back of my second vaccine too!

Yes, apparently there's a link between Covid or having the vaccine and getting shingles. I was listening to a US doctor who's treated many patients with shingles after being either vaccinated or having Covid. He said it was a pity people hadn't first been vaccinated with Shingrix before getting the Covid vaccine (or contracting Covid)! Of course you'd have needed a crystal ball to see that coming, but still. It's not common but it does happen.

Yes I had shingles when I had covid

onedayoranother · 15/01/2022 10:33

My friend had shingles after her first jab. Could have been a coincidence.

Ceto · 23/02/2022 22:57

I have shingles which developed at exactly the same time as DH tested positive for covid. I tested negative but I guess I might have had asymptomatic covid previously.

Starcrossed2 · 23/02/2022 23:00

I had booster end of October and faint positives at start of November. Had shingles about 3 weeks ago. No idea if it’s linked, my sil had shingles twice last year. She’s not had Covid just vaccines. We’re both early 30s so seems quite odd
