DS is 15 months and caught covid last week, he had a runny nose but otherwise well and started testing negative 5 days ago. He now has a mild fever 37.5-38.8 and the doc says he has a chest infection but its viral and will run its cause. But he has had a fever 4 days now and if he has a chest infection from covid doesn’t that mean he still have covid and its gone to his chest? Im getting nervous about pneumonia as all the horror stories of covid.
He seems okay, temp is being managed by calpol and nuerfen, hes playing etc a bit itritable and few more tantrums than usual. Shall i be following docs advice or pushing for anti biotics? I would have expected temperature to have gone by now.
Very very worried, am i overeating?

I remember mine getting infections like this before Covid when they were toddlers - they recovered fine but it's horrible when they're ill like that. For toddlers, Covid is not really any different to the host of viruses that have been around for generations and have caused fevers and coughs etc. I hope he recovers soon - confident he will.

SmallElephant · 14/01/2022 16:20

He can't take antibiotics if it's viral - antibiotics aren't effective against viruses. Maybe call 111 if you are worried? Hope he feels better soon OP.

If it’s viral antibiotics won’t help and if the doctor listened to his chest she would have been able to hear a wheeze if it was bacterial rather than viral then they would have given antibiotics. Just keep an eye and if you are worried call 111 or take him back

Keep a close eye, and seek help if he doesn't start to recover. I've heard of a baby the same age coming down with croup after covid, and needing a brief stay in hospital.
With a child that age it is best to be overcautious. I really hope he picks up on his own very soon.

@treeflowercat

Thank you, thats reassuring

I will keep an eye and see how we go, he ate dinner today and his energy levels seem to be up, which is a good sign. Hopefully the fever will break soon.
