My DS5 is unwell lft negative, 2 positive cases in class

Morning all,

My DS5 is unwell, he came home from school yesterday and initially seemed normal, then he just curled up onto my lap and fell asleep, didn't eat his dinner, then seemed to perk up, but happily went straight to sleep, have done an lft as one of his classmates tested positive on Monday but that has come back negative, 2 of his classmates have also been off this week, reason unknown, this morning I've checked Google classroom and another child has tested positive yesterday, would you just keep him home? I don't want to send him in, but I also don't want his education to be disrupted, he's still currently fast asleep which is highly unusual for him.

I'm now also worrying about my dd2 who has a rubbish immune system from spending most of her life avoiding people due to covid.

It's too much of coincidence that 2 classmates have tested positive.

Just wondering what others would do in this situation? I think we should just all just stay home and keep away from people for a week or so.

Keep him home, this is how my ds(3) started, negative lft but very cuddly and sleepy. I think it was about day 3 before it finally showed positive on lft, but we expected it as dd was already positive

starlightmagic · 14/01/2022 07:37

My lft took about 24 hours to show up even though I felt poorly and knew it was coming!

noblegiraffe · 14/01/2022 07:37

I would get him a PCR as it seems likely he has it - fatigue is a symptom. Even if it's not on the official list, test and trace accept it as a symptom for 'date symptoms started'.

I never had a positive lateral flow, pcr came back positive.

Keep a poorly small child at home whether covid or not.
I’d probably test every couple of days for a week.

Madmog · 14/01/2022 07:42

It won't hurt having one day off especially as he isn't feeling well. Our school no longer try to get pupils through the day if they're ill in any way, parents get called to collect them, so he could go in for a couple of hours, pass whatever to another child and then another family have the concern, have to cancel things.

Also, that'll give you three days to test and monitor. Hope he feels better soon.

Frazzled2207 · 14/01/2022 07:47

I’d get a pcr before sending back.

When dh had it his lft was neg until day 4

timeforteaforyouandme · 14/01/2022 07:50

Keep him at home and keep an eye on him at the very least. You wouldn't have sent him to school pre covid if he was tired and unwell

Toomanypeople · 14/01/2022 07:55

Pcr as he has symptoms, fatigue is common with covid, and stay home until you get result

AlexaShutUp · 14/01/2022 07:58

Yes, get a pcr.

Update

Just done another lft when he woke up, and it was positive 😥

It can take upto 3 days after first symptom for the viral load to be sufficient to trigger a positive result. Chances are that if you sent him to school they would be contacting you to collect him anyway because he is poorly. Keep him home and retest in a day or two.
