Old asymptomatic isolation rules before January 11 change

Please can anyone help me find the correct information regarding asymptomatic isolation before the 11 January rule change.

Before the rule change, I always believed that if you got a positive lateral flow and were asymptomatic, your day 0 didn't start until the day you took the PCR test. But I'm struggling to confirm this online as all the nhs and gov websites now only tell me about the new rules which say a follow up PCR is not required for asymptomatic cases and day 0 is the day you took a LFT.

I require this information to stop someone from ending their isolation early as they believe their day 0 is the day they took the LFT and not 2 days later when they took a PCR, which all occurred before Tuesday 11th. Not going to go into why they waited 2 days for PCR, I didn't agree with them and I've argued enough with this person over it. I don't know what test and trace will have told them, even if I ask they will probably twist it so they are right.

Well if they had done a pcr on the same day as the lft it would have been positive for sure. So yes I would count day zero as the lft day if no symptoms.

Dd had covid and had no symptoms. I did an lft on the Tuesday evening which was positive. I didn't pcr until the next day. Test and trace agreed her day zero would be the lft day but unsure what official guidance is.

Test and trace couldn't tell me when DS's isolation ended. Because he had symptoms and negative pcrs days before he got a positives...they weren't sure if it was from symptoms or from test. 🤦‍♀️

Sometimes people cannot do paces straight away. Especially if they don't drive or can't drive and have to wait for a postal test to arrive...

Day 0 is the day you get a positive test - doesn’t specify that it has to be a PCR. When my relative had Covid in November, T&T also said their day 0 was the day they got their positive LFT, they had a PCR the following day.

I think you might be wrong OP. I can’t find the old guidance but I’m fairly certain that day 0 was the day you took the LFT or symptoms started as long as it isn’t more than 5 days before you took the PCR.

I don’t think you are going to be able to find anything to support your argument.

If they were positive on their LFT then surely that's their day 0?

Figmentofimagination · 13/01/2022 10:07

Happy to be told I'm wrong, one less argument with this person. I just couldn't find the answer online anymore as everything refers to the new rules.
I was asking for the information (thanks to @TheLadyGrayson for supplying a link) so that if I was right I could show them as they wouldn't just take my word for it.

@dementedpixie, yes they were positive on a LFT (and the 3 they took after that before booking the PCR test, what a waste) but I wasn't sure if the rule was that day 0 was the day of the LFT or day 0 was the day of the PCR. The guidance now only refers to no PCRs for positive LFTs of asymptomatic cases. And I didn't want them leaving the house before they were legally allowed to.

Well we went by dhs positive LFT as it was hard to get booked for a PCR and his LFT was 28th December. Seems daft to count it from the PCR if there is a delay between LFT and PCR dates. If you're positive you're positive regardless of type of test.

From December 2021….. Day 0 is day of LFT

(Although the info on this was out of date for self isolation of household members, if exempt!)

Thank you everyone. For once I'm glad I am wrong (hard for me to admit that 😂)
