Test & Trace saying 10 days self-isolating?

Our DD12 tested positive this morning. School wanted confirmation we'd logged the LFT result with the NHS which we did, then Test & Trace got involved. The app is saying she needs to self-isolate for 10 days, but I thought it was only seven now? I'm confused!

It is if DD tests negative on LFT on days 6 and 7 she can come out of isolation.

ColettesEarrings · 13/01/2022 09:07

It's still ten days unless you have two successive negative lfts 24hrs apart, the first to be taken on day 6 at the earliest.

MrsTrumpton · 13/01/2022 09:17

Ah, thank you! Now I get it.

Only 7 days if they've had negative lateral flows on two consecutive days no earlier than day 6&7.

It won't happen for everyone and many people will have to do the full 10.

Dd 6 had covid. She was totally asymptomatic. The new rules come in on day 8 of her covid last month. I did an lft and she still had a line despite having no symptoms... I was hoping she would have been able to come out of isolation a day or so early before Christmas.

Some people get a line for weeks after but you can still come out after 10 regardless.

So plan for 10...

As the others say its only 7 days if they test negative on day 6 and 7. If they still test positive their isolation continues

CharlotteRose90 · 13/01/2022 10:34

It’s still 10 unless you test negative on days 6 and 7. I had it over Christmas the same as majority of my work and not one of us tested negative sadly . I wouldn’t bank on it being negative sorry.

DS’s pcr (following symptoms and a positive lft) on the the first of Jan came back positive. That was day 1. Lft on day 6 was faint, on day 7 really clear, so he stayed in isolation.
Lft’s on day 8 and 9 were negative, so he was out of isolation , and back at school the next day, which would have been day 10, and his last if he had still been tested positive. School were happy to have him back, but had asked for advance notice of the negative lft’s before he went back in.
DS was clear of symptoms from day 6, although I’d say he is still looking pale ( day 13)

SunonmyFace · 13/01/2022 10:49

Out of isolation after the negative test on day 9 that should say

MrsTrumpton · 13/01/2022 13:20

Thanks everyone, we shall obviously prepare for her staying in for longer, which seems even more likely now they've cut the quarantine time to five days! It's just been announced.

I have one more question: if she tested positive this morning after showing symptoms yesterday, am I right in thinking yesterday was day zero, today is day 1, tomorrow day 2, etc, etc?

dementedpixie · 13/01/2022 13:21

Yes I'd count yesterday if she had symptoms

ifoundthebread · 13/01/2022 13:24

Day 1 is the day symptoms started. Isolation had been cut if you test negative on day 5 and day 6 (24 hours apart) , once you get a negative on day 6 you are free to leave Isolation.

sheeplikessleep · 13/01/2022 13:28

I thought first day of symptoms / positive is day 0

dementedpixie · 13/01/2022 13:31

Day of symptoms is day 0 not day 1

This is on the official gov guidance page and helps to explain it all

Test & Trace saying 10 days self-isolating?
SunonmyFace · 13/01/2022 13:49

@sheeplikessleep, this was the case on the first of jan. lots of low charts about

ifoundthebread · 13/01/2022 14:09

Yeah sorry, day 0 is the moment symptoms started. The way I was counting meant from day 0 is day 1. Don't know how to word how I got it wrong 😂 I blame covid.

MrsTrumpton · 13/01/2022 15:52

Thanks all. I'm right then, yesterday was day 0 because it was yesterday evening she said she had a headache and sore throat. She felt better this morning but we tested first thing to be on the safe side and lo and behold it was positive. Today is day 1 and she'll be able to test Sun (5) and Mon (6) to hopefully leave quarantine then.

Test and trace will also not count LFT as day zero and add on the days if you do a PCR. Fuming son tested police on Sunday, as new rules weren’t in place to not do a PCR yet we ordered a PCR test. Wish we hadn’t bothered now as it’s added two days to the isolation time. Had I lied and said he had symptoms they’d have reduced it but a logged and recorded LFT doesn’t count.
