My sister in law hasn’t been vaccinated (I know, I know).
She works in a primary school as a TA.
Lots of close contact with kids. She also has a secondary school aged daughter.

She’s never ever had covid! Even though she’s not had a single vaccine.
Me on the other hand, I’ve had all three jabs and I’ve had it twice!

I’ve not had it. Children had it. They’re young. Coughing etc all over me. Shared drinks. Cuddles. Kisses. Sneezed on me. The lot. Didn’t get it. Thank god.

DockOTheBay · 13/01/2022 19:21

I guess this is just the same as every other illness where some people get every cold going and feel awful whereas other people never seem to catch them

Same here. I had only had one vaccine at the time when my daughters had it. One of them literally licked my tongue the day before she tested positive and I didn't catch it. Was a lot less concerned about catching it from a passer by after that!

In August ds had Covid, dd1 shared a car with him before he knew and didn't get it.

In October, I had Covid, shared bed with dh, he didn't get it. Dd2 did, ds didn't.
dd1 didn't get it either.

In December dh and dd2 both had Covid. I didn't get it and neither did dd1.

We are starting to think dd1 has a strong natural immunity.
She had one vaccine in Sept, and second one in early Jan, so not totally vaccinated either when we all had it.

LakeShoreD · 13/01/2022 19:32

Just because she’s never tested positive for covid doesn’t mean she hasn’t had it. She might have ignored symptoms because they weren’t the 3 classic ones we were told to look for in the beginning, she also could have been asymptomatic- according to adverts that went up around my parts before vaccines were rolled out, a third of people apparently have no symptoms at all!

Blubells · 13/01/2022 19:34

There's a big difference between asymptomatic covid (but still testing positive for the virus) and acting catching it at all!

Blubells · 13/01/2022 19:34

Sorry 'not'

Northernsoullover · 13/01/2022 19:36

I've never had it. I've definitely been exposed.

user1471530109 · 13/01/2022 19:39

I'm a teacher (and ECV) and haven't had it. Neither has anyone in my household (2dc at school). We test v often (minimum twice a week). My parents haven't had it and neither has my dsis (also a teacher).

We are all vaccinated (except kids) though. But I do wonder if there is a genetic reason we have avoided it. Amazing really as I normally catch everything! My other dsis has caught it before Christmas but it was v mild. She is a nurse and worked throughout. It took a long time to 'catch' her.

RememberThePenguins · 13/01/2022 19:40

DS9 has been exposed multiple times in school, including his two closest friends. Never had it.

DM, DB, DSIL, all nurses. Exposed multiple times. Never had it.

stripyleopardsleep · 13/01/2022 19:44

I work in a team of 10 in an acute hospital and we have all been on and off covid wards (including back when all we had were paper masks), normal wards, wards with outbreaks and treating people up close and personal for nearly 2 years and not 1 of us has caught it. Quite a few have had covid in the home and still not caught it. It's fascinating.

user1471543683 · 13/01/2022 19:54

I could be your sister in law apart from having a different post in the school but all the rest the same. As far as I know, never had it. High school DD never had it. DS and DP never had it. I do believe the 20+ years surrounded by children and their bugs, coughs etc must have helped me.

Tana433 · 13/01/2022 20:13

Im unvaccinated and have never had covid. Dont believe i have had it but been asymptomatic as i dont believe that is a' 'thing'. I spent years working in nurseries and then as a childminder so my immune system is very robust. I am also slighty overweight but consider myself to be healthy. Very luckily i am now retired so i dont need to come into contact with people if i dont want to and i am very grateful for that because i would never ever take this vaccine even if it was mandated where i worked. I realise i am lucky to be in a position where i dont need to work though.

Delatron · 13/01/2022 21:06

Sorry you don’t believe being asymptomatic is a thing? @Tana433

Delatron · 13/01/2022 21:11

We’ve had Delta in the house from DS2 nobody else caught it. Then DH and I had omicron DS1 still didn’t get that. The my Mum came to stay with us and had Omicron, DS1 still didn’t catch it.

It’s gone through his school and his friends...
Either natural immunity or he’s had it asymptomatically.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/01/2022 21:13

Yes it is a thing. I wouldn't have known I had covid only for the fact that my husband had symptoms so we both tested.

steppemum · 14/01/2022 07:37

@stripeyflowers

How do you know she's never had covid?
all the satff and kids and my kids school sare supposed to be tested twice a week.

So as the person in the OP is working in a school, I assume that she would have been testing and it would have flagged up if she had Covid.

Same with my dd, she was testing twice a week, even in August due to her summer job, and she has never tested positive.

Delatron · 14/01/2022 08:37

There was no testing until about July 2020 anyway. Many had it in the first wave and had no idea
