9yo has covid - what to expect?

Hi all, my 8 y/o has covid and is very sleepy and tired, and a bit weepy (day 2) plus a high temperature.

Does anyone have any advice about what to expect in terms of how your kids were with it at a similar age?

I've tested negative, fully boosted etc etc. I'm a LP and he sleeps in my bed every night. When he's ill I can't very easily stop him as he needs me even more - what do you think? I'm masking up, but it's a bit too cold to open windows and a bit odd wear a mask overnight etc.

Many thanks

Hope he feels well very soon! If it helps, ds slept in my bed for about a week when he had covid and I didn’t catch it that I was aware of. And that was despite him having a really bad cough, and before the vaccines were around! Smile I was like you, he really needed me so it didn’t cross my mind to stay away from him.

I’m terms of what to expect, it’s so difficult to say! Ds took about 5/6 days to get over the fever, but if your ds has a milder infection, he could be feeling better tomorrow.
Fingers crossed he perks up soon Flowers

thank you @BewareTheLibrarians really appreciate it! Hope your DS was ok after his bout and didn't suffer any longer term issues.

My poor thing is just sleeping all day, he obviously needs it!!

My DS is 10 and on day 5.

After day 2 he was like normal. Literally wouldn’t know anything was wrong.

Day 1&2 headache, temp, grumpy, nausea.

He’s also now very bored and fidgety. Very. Driving everyone nuts.

I’ve isolated with the older DCs but at 10 that’s not fair, so ‘who knows’ but so far negative but all of us otherwise vaxxed as well as we can be. He was the only one not due to age. I feel doomed to get it this time!

My 10 yo cousin got it just before Christmas. He had a temp which came straight down once he had enough calpol, stayed in bed for a day and slept a bit, that was it. My aunt said it was indistinguishable from - or possibly even milder than - the winter bugs he's had in past years before covid came along, she didn't distance from him and tested positive as well but never had any symptoms. Cousin had no cough, no sore throat, no runny nose, and bouncing off the walls by day 2 so it was extremely mild (and he has not been vaccinated due to his age). If it wasn't for the tests they never would have known - and my aunt really wouldn't have known as she had no symptoms at all.

Hi my ds age 8 is on day 4
Since tested positive and is absolutely full of beans - a bit hyper which I am attributing to cabin fever really.
His symptoms which made us test were off his food / tummy ache and a bit tired.
That's about it tho he did have a bad dream the night before and felt hot but I didn't think anything of it at the time.
I am not isolating at all as he was sad and I didn't want him to feel like a leper. dH and DD did keep away at first but it t didn't really last! None of us have tested positive yet .
There are other cases in his class and all seem incredibly mild - one had a headache , one has mild cold type symptoms.
No one is actually I ill as far
As I know.
Fingers crossed it stays that way !

Shinyandnew2022 · 13/01/2022 13:45

Good luck @loloballlolo hope you are both ok !

My six year old was extremely tired, slight fever, runny nose, tickly cough and just generally unwell and a bit miserable. Made a complete recovery after about 48 hours and no one else in the household tested positive.

Poppytime · 13/01/2022 15:07

My 8yo was completely asymptomatic. My 6yo had a on/off mild fever for less than 24 hours. Hope similar for you.

Eliards2012 · 13/01/2022 15:11

My 9 year old is currently positive (positive pcr yesterday) - he literally slept for 3 days straight, then he had a night of diarrhoea literally every hour and a sore throat and today he is usual self (bouncing off the walls). His two sisters and myself are also positive (I’m boostered).

frogswimming · 13/01/2022 15:12

My 8 and 10 year olds had it over Christmas. One had no symptoms at all. The other had a temperature and headache for a couple of days which got better with calpol and a sleep.

Wankerchief · 13/01/2022 17:05

Hi op I’m in the same boat.
My 11 yr old tested positive today he’s got a temp a headache and is very tired and grumpy. He was fine this morning but did a lft and got a positive, he then did two more and all were positive too.
I’ve decided not to isolate from him, he will sleep in the front room with me.
I’m triple vaxxed and I can’t bear the thought of him being alone for days. I will just test everyday, what else can I do 🤷🏻‍♀️
His school sent an email saying that 11 out of 27 kids in his class currently had covid! Cant believe how many.

Bagelsandbrie · 13/01/2022 17:10

Sorry to hear he is feeling unwell. I think it’s so random how they go with it. My 9 year old had it and had a snotty nose and slight cough for two days and was then absolutely fine again. No fever at all. Dh and I felt like we had the worst flu ever with it but are now on the mend. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery.

Bagelsandbrie · 13/01/2022 17:11

Meant to add- I would let him sleep with you and carry on as usual.

wendz86 · 13/01/2022 17:14

Hope he feels better soon.

My 10 year old had a sniffly nose for a few days and then a cough but wasn't too bad. 6 year old had a high temperature at night but was generally ok during day. 6 year old slept in my bed and i caught it 6 days after she got it. I'm also a lone parent so know it can be tough so take it easy.

loloballlolo · 13/01/2022 17:56

thank you everyone for your kind wishes! Last night he slept most of the evening and afternoon - today he is MUCH better. Fever gone, a sore throat but otherwise you wouldn't really know! So I think by tomorrow we should be ok and pretty normal. And a supermarket delivery of goodies is helping to soften the blow...

Touch wood so far so good with me, I have a slight weird tired eyes thing going on but not sure if related. I'm saving my lateral flows in case I run out but will test tomorrow!

I think my triple vaccines are doing me good... :)

Hope everyone else is staying safe, or if you have covid, well enough and getting through! :)

Hope it's a quick recovery for them! My 9 year old DD had covid last week. She was very tired, had a sore blocked nose and had tummy aches and headaches for about three days. Then after that slowly got back to her normal self. She had no temperature or cough. We only found out as she need to do a LFT before she went back to school, that was a strong positive, then PCR came back positive. Neither me, DH or DS ever caught it.

Veeveeoxox · 14/01/2022 03:14

Mine had it in August , slight sore head no other symptoms .
