Can the 10 and 12 year old help out?

toomuchlaundry · 12/01/2022 09:53

Do you have a partner?

NotTerfNorCis · 12/01/2022 10:03

I have asthma and I've heard it's not a risk factor in Covid.

Just take it an hour at a time.

Reallybadidea · 12/01/2022 10:05

I have asthma, been hospitalised with it a few times. It wasn't triggered by covid at all and asthma in general doesn't seem to be a big risk factor for severe disease.

Angrymum22 · 12/01/2022 10:07

If you are already testing positive you have likely had it for a few days now. You may be one of the lucky asymptomatic ones, hopefully.

Halfarsedjingler · 12/01/2022 10:09

I know 2 people who's children both have severe asthma and sailed through covid without any issues. Hope you stay well and your kids feel better soon.

PolkaDot456 · 12/01/2022 10:11

How many jabs have you had?

stressedaboutcovid · 12/01/2022 10:17

If your vaccinated and had your booster you may not get any symptoms at all. I caught covid in September after having 2 vaccinations, I had no symptoms at all, only tested as dd (un vaccinated) was poorly with it so we both got a PCR when her LFT was positive.

Try not to panic, for many it’s just like a bad cold or even a light cold. My dd was unwell for 3/4 days and was then fine.

Bobholll · 12/01/2022 10:21

It’s actually been shown that asthmatics fair better with covid! You are less likely to have breathing issues than the general population. They think it’s related to the inhalers/drugs we take already. Asthma is not a risk factor with covid unless it is significantly severe (ie. uncontrolled & multiple hospital admissions etc).

I’ve got moderate asthma. It’s troublesome. The smallest of colds goes straight to my chest & flares it up. I’ve had covid twice & not so much as a cough. I felt pretty unwell but all headache/sinus related. Didn’t go to my chest at all.

Don’t stress, it’ll make you feel worse. It’s just an illness like any other, no need to panic at all. You’ll probably feel a bit shit like you do with a bad cold & then you’ll be fine!

Rockbottom2910 · 12/01/2022 10:21

I have heard more recently that asthma is not really a risk factor for covid like they said it was at the start. My local doctors were not even prioritising people with asthma when they started vaccinating group 6. Was telling people it wasn't a risk for those with asthma. Obviously I'm not an expert.

Also, for many omicron is more upper respiratory. It's not causing lung, breathing or chest issues for most peopleI had a bad cough with it but it was all from my tickly throat. Had no lower respiratory symptoms. I am not asthmatic though...

You might miss it but you will be fine. It's mild for most people 💕

Cornettoninja · 12/01/2022 10:24

Do you have inhalers? Tbh that’s something that is prescribed to non-asthmatics if they’re struggling with mild covid so you’re already ahead of the game slightly there.

The statistics are that you’ll be fine. Take it as easy as you can and don’t hesitate to call 111 or your GP if you feel you need to, early treatments/interventions have the best outcomes so really don’t put it off if you have concerns. Other than that just take it as easy as you can and don’t be afraid to ask friends/family for help if you need things.

In the hopes of making you feel better my 70 year old df with epilepsy, diabetes, fluid on the lungs and end stage heart failure along with a series of multiple heart attacks caught covid just before Christmas during a prolonged hospital stay. Covid barely affected him, he’s still not convinced he had it and is pissed off he was isolated for ten days! I was certain that this would be what finished him off and he didn’t even break a temperature!

Bluntly there is a chance that anyone could be really badly affected but for the majority of us we’ll be fine. Please try not to let your worries run away with themselves.

CUniverse · 12/01/2022 10:24

I'd guess the panic and fear are taking over, bless you.

You will convince yourself to be more unwell that you are just by crying and obsessing. Of course no one can tell you that you will be without symptoms, but, I have faith that you will be fine. You have antibodies that will help you recover quickly from any symptoms you develop. It could be a walk in the park and all this panic would have been for nothing.

You are doing very well dealing with a house full of Covid btw... Take it easy, distract yourself, and if you do start feeling unwell, just repeat in your head "this will pass" because it's highly likely that you will come out of it just fine.
All the best.

Cornettoninja · 12/01/2022 10:26

Oh and my df hadn’t had his booster - he missed it due to being in hospital.

2022HowDoYouDo · 12/01/2022 10:28

I'm asthmatic and currently have covid. I've been fine so far, it feels like a normal headcold so just taking lemsip max and ibuprofen.

hellsbells99 · 12/01/2022 11:31

My DH has just had covid and is asthmatic. It did affect his chest but he has had worse chest infections. He did need to have a weeks worth of steroid tablets. If you feel your chest getting tight at all, phone your doctors. Also use an oximeter and take your oxygen levels regularly. If they drop, phone your doctor.

Aposterhasnoname · 12/01/2022 11:34

Just been talking to a work colleague who tested positive for covid on New Year’s Eve. He has asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure and is very over weight. He says he felt a fraud being off work and has had worse colds. HTH.

Incognito22333 · 12/01/2022 11:39

Sorry I don’t have Asthma, but my friend does and had Covid.
She told me she took extra puffs from her inhalers and it worked really well, but I don’t know whether the brown or blue inhaler nor what dosage she had.
I would make sure you have enough inhalers and treat as any chest infection to prevent as much as possible. Please ring your GP if you are worried. Don’t get stressed, relax, take vitamins and sleep as much as possible. I know that is hard with a 1 and 2 year old but TV might work for a bit and as others have suggested I would also ask the 12 year old to help (pay/bribe if necessary).
Hopefully being vaccinated you will be absolutely fine.

stressedaboutcovid · 12/01/2022 12:22
