Are 12-15yr olds able to get the jab a few days early?

I know this may depend on area but has anyone had a walk in allow their teen to get jabbed a few days before the 12 week deadline?

DD had 1st jab on 25th Oct so is due on the 17th Jan. I'm toying with trying for a walk in this Friday 14th for her. Her arm was achy last time so I'd rather she had the weekend to mooch around at home after the jab. I'm also anxious to get her done ASAP as she may be going to France with school at Easter. She's not had covid yet, hence my rush to beat it!

It’ll most likely be a computer says no situation,

That's what I'm thinking purple.

Yes it will be fine. Kids who are vulnerable or live with vulnerable can have it at 8 weeks - just say she has close contact with an at risk relative. Im getting ds done at 8 weeks using this excuse. You may need to get letter from gp but its in guidelines that its allowed

If she gets covid just dont pcr. I didnt pcr ds after covid so he could be vaccinated anytime

I rang to book my 16 year old in at 12 weeks and asked about our 13 year old who had his first dose 3 weeks after dc1.

They said that for that age group the guidance was ‘from 8 weeks after their first dose as long as they hadn’t contracted the virus since then’ so dc2 had his second dose just over 9 weeks after his first.

Update..
Yes, DD was able to get it today at a walk in, 3 days early. The receptionist had to ask the lead doctor on shift and he was fine with it. She said one of the others won't budge even by a day. So we were lucky we got him.

I thought the 12 week gap was safer, though a few days wouldn't matter? You don't mean you'd give it soon after Covid do you?

I tried, computer definitely says NO !

Watapalava · 14/01/2022 19:16

Svara both my ds got their vaccines 28 days after covid only recently. To be fair one didn't have pcr so there was no record officially but the other did. I even asked outright and was told 28 days for everyone. They are 15&13. Since then loads of teens i know have been vax 28 days after covid. This 12 week rule seems out of sync with everyone else - it will massively disadvantage our kids for travel as kids cant get recovery certs and many countries dont accept them anyway.

It only recently changed to 12 weeks anyway so many uk kids got the vax after 28 days

I should say it needs to be walk in centres- the online booking defo wont allow it

loobylou44 · 14/01/2022 19:18

We were turned away yesterday. Dd15 is entitled to have it from Monday apparently.

My 16 year old was at the vaccination centre with an adult sibling who was having their booster. They asked if she wanted her second vaccine but found she was 2 days short so wouldn't do it.
