Anyone's baby had covid?

Hi everyone would appreciate a rant/ some support.

DH tested positive Tuesday, has been self isolating in the spare room since.

Have just returned from A and E with DD2 (6 months old). She has a runny nose, vomiting and temperature, generally not herself. After tests where done they sent us home to keep an eye on her.

The nurse told me it's likely she has the virus from DH, but they never tested her for it?

She's currently asleep but I can't as I'm too worried about her vomiting and choking on it. She also has had minimal milk today, she's just not interested.

So I'm currently exhausted, DH is upset he gave it to her and can't help out.

I feel as though I'm drowning and no one can help 😩

To be honest, I know of a number of families where the family tested positive but they were told no point to test the baby as the baby would isolate with them anyways.

Babies and toddlers do get sickness bugs. DD’s was the worst in the summer as she was sick basically constantly for 3 days, perhaps whilst sleeping she would go max 30 mins without vomiting but during the day never even close to 30 mins between. She was sick again more recently but only sick around 3,4 times a night so much more doable.

I’m sorry your baby is sick, just make sure she is having still wet nappies and if not that’s when you need to get medical treatment, I’m sure the hospital would have said what to look out for? Otherwise it just sadly is what it is, they get sick and you worry until they’re better.

I think we did as a family back in early March 2020 before we could test. But we had all the symptoms and DS was 7 months at that point. He had a fever for a couple of days, seemed to get better then had a fever for another few days. Off his milk and food for a while and had a cough for about 3 weeks which was probably the worst part as we all felt rough and were waking each other up coughing as he was still in his snuzpod with us at that point so no one got the sleep we needed. It did eventually pass but was pretty grim while it lasted. Hope you all feel better and more rested soon.

I really feel for you. My DD had covid at 9 months in October (not tested but I tested positive a few days before) and tbh it was hell. I got no sleep for several days because she was waking up crying every ten minutes. I felt like I was going insane as my DH was fine so was doing his night shifts as normal. She did settle down after 4/5 days though and bounced back pretty quickly.

Obviously I hope you don’t catch it too, but if you do then at least you can both share the burden?!

I hope things get better v soon for you OP

My son was 18months ish when he caught COVID from nursery- so up to you how useful this is. He wasn’t himself and had a high temperature for about 3 days, but after that he was completely fine. He’s had several bouts of fevers with temperatures since he was born and COVID was no worse than any of the others.

We were advised if calpol brought down his temp (it did) then not to worry too much.

Thank you for your replies everyone.

Were currently in hospital. DD hasn't drank for 24 hours or had any wet nappies. She also has a high heart rate and a temperature.

She tested postive for covid this morning.

Hi OP, so sorry you are going through this stress. My 8 week baby has just recovered from Covid. She had a nasty temp/ high heart rate, some diarrhoea and vomiting, and she was very sleepy/ reluctant to feed. Temperature luckily only lasted about 24 hours. Then afterwards she had some tummy trouble and a very snotty nose for about a week. She’s all fine and testing negative now. It’s such a stress when your little ones are unwell, but luckily in babies Covid is a minor illness. Sounds like your little one has become quite dehydrated- mine did too at one point but they put her on a drip and she perked right up. Hope your DD is feeling better really soon! Xx

@SouthParkCovid sorry to hear this, how is she doing now? I hope you’re all ok.

SouthParkCovid · 11/01/2022 02:19

DD is currently sleeping. She had a tube fitted for fluids so she's now had a litre of water. Tried to feed her usual formula but she only managed an ounce.

Hopefully she'll manage more when she wakes but it looks like she may need tube feeding if not.

I really appreciate all your replies, I suffer from depression so it helps to get it all out.

Trying not to worry family too much so holding it all in.

It's good to know other people's LOs have been OK as DD is the only baby in the family, so natutally everyone is worried.

Oh bless you OP, you must be so stressed! Your baby will be absolutely ok ❤️. It Sounds like she just needs some help getting some fluids and food into her while she’s feeling so poorly and off her milk. I felt so nauseated when I had Covid I didn’t want to eat anything for a couple of days. Poor thing is probably feeling like that. If it helps I’m in a couple of Facebook groups with about 350 mums with infants and loads of the babies have had Covid and have all recovered within a few days or so. Wishing your DD a really speedy recovery xxx

MiEncanto · 11/01/2022 06:58

Hope your DD is okay OP.

Try not to worry. There were a few viruses (not Covid) that landed my DS in hospital at a similar age just for observations / oxygen. It was really scary at the time but I don't think all that uncommon and he was usually out by a couple of days at the latest Flowers

Doidontimmm · 11/01/2022 07:09

My grandaughter just had covid at 10 months along with her mum & dad, couple of days bring off and then back to herself. My daughter had a couple of nasty viruses many years ago as a baby including a hospital stay but after fluids & antibiotics she was right as rain. Try not to worry, they are little but tough little things.
