Is anyone else in the same predicament? She won’t be able to have her two jabs before we go! What are you planning to do if you're in the same position?

We're just bumping this thread for you, OP, in case anyone's around to answer your query.

ouchmyfeet · 10/01/2022 15:48

Yes I'm in the this same situation. I think we will have to cancel the holiday, can't see a way around it

Wigeon · 10/01/2022 16:29

Afraid this is why loads of people with school aged children aren’t booking foreign holidays, either because the children can’t comply with the vaccination entry requirements, or because of the uncertainty in case the requirements change (eg France is currently only allowing essential travel from the UK, regardless of vaccination status).

If the entry requirements for Spain are that 12+ year olds have to be double jabbed, then unless Spain changes their rules (presume unlikely) you won’t be able to go.

Delatron · 10/01/2022 16:34

Yep. Very frustrating for parents of 11 year olds that turn 12 in Spring/summer.

We’re going to do a longer holiday at Easter (DS will turn 12 while we are away but that’s ok)

Then we may squeeze both vaccinations in by end of August.

I really feel for those with birthdays in June/ July. Summer holidays abroad are off the cards. Unless the rules change. Other countries don’t have such a big gap so if that could be reduced that would help.

Delatron · 10/01/2022 16:37

Or you look at places that don’t need both vaccinations but they tend to be long haul and expensive like Mexico and Costa Rica.

LargeBowl · 10/01/2022 16:51

It’s so frustrating. And why we haven’t booked to go to Spain!

BambinaJAS · 10/01/2022 16:51

You are stuck then till next year.

Peasinthefreezer · 10/01/2022 17:08

We are in the same situation Dd turns 12 in July. Have been researching and I think at the moment can also go to Greece. Unvaccinated Children have to show negative lft to enter museums, indoor attractions etc

Remmy123 · 10/01/2022 17:08

I reckon they will change it once they realise they are losing tourists

derekthe1adyhamster · 10/01/2022 17:13

We had the same last year, both DSs had received the first vaccination but not the second due to their age. We had to suck up the testing and quarantine when they got home 😓

BambinaJAS · 10/01/2022 17:25

This is very unlikely.
Wellbythebloodyhell · 10/01/2022 17:50

I believe the entry requirements are from 12yr 3m to be double vaccinated so If she's 12y 2m she will be able to travel without

Watapalava · 10/01/2022 17:56

i expect theyll loosen entry once covid is more in control.

QuentininQuarantino · 10/01/2022 17:59

Double check that there isn’t a grace period of 3 months. I read in el país recently that Spanish children won’t have to show a vaccine pass at restaurants until they are 12 and 3 months.

Thatswhathappens · 10/01/2022 21:45

Oh that’s interesting ref the 12 years and three months, sounds a possibility.
I have looked at Greece and Portugal to change my holiday too but to be honest I’m thinking of leaving it another year and doing devon again this year, it just seems so much hassle and I don’t want her to have to test everytime we want to go to an attraction etc.

Taswama · 10/01/2022 21:48

Same situation here, which is why it's going to be another UK holiday.

Theteenthetweenandthedog · 11/01/2022 08:11

I'm in the same position. We had booked our Gran Canaria holiday for 2020, postponed it to 2021 then moved it to 2022, now realised my son will turn 12 9 weeks before we are due to go so can't possibly meet the fully vaccinated rules! Going to speak to tui today, hopefully can move, looks like Greece and Cyprus don't require kids to be fully vaccinated

Minikievs · 11/01/2022 12:04

Can someone please advise where the information is regarding the 3 month grace period?
My son turns 12 in June and I'd like to go away in July but I can't find details of the 12 years and 3 month rule anywhere official? TIA

As far as I can see the 3 months only applies to Spanish children going out to restaurants etc in Spain, I don't think it applies to tourists entering Spain unfortunately. Which does leave a window between a child's 12th birthday and 14days after 2nd jab during which time they can't travel to Spain

So Tui won't let me amend my booking for free becuase the rules might change. Not very helpful!
Minikievs · 11/01/2022 12:23

Ah, thank you. At least I'm not going bonkers! I couldn't find it anywhere!
I think I might try for Greece, as that allows children under 13 to be unvaccinated.
What a shame about Tui not letting you swap! This is the problem with the rules constantly changing

BunsyGirl · 11/01/2022 12:50

I have the same issue. My DS turns 12 in the summer eight days before we travel. The rule wasn’t in place when we booked. I’m hoping that Spain reverts back to its previous rules as this was introduced due to Omicron or that we start to vaccinate 5-11 year olds.
Whatever happens, we won’t be holidaying in the U.K. Will find an alternative destination.

Flo1988 · 27/01/2022 05:03

Hi I'm also in the same boat with my son, I'm fuming at tui as I spoke with them yesterday and to change the holiday it will cost me £50pp to change the dates andvthere is 6 of us, they wasn't very helpful at all. How is everyone else getting on that's booked holidays? Smile

redandwhite1 · 27/01/2022 05:24

If she's still 11 she won't need to be jabbed?

I thought their rule was anyone over 12?

redandwhite1 · 27/01/2022 05:26

Just re read the title and I thought you meant she was still 11 🤦🏼‍♀️ ignore me!!
