Travel to Spain on only one jab

Booked a 1/2 term break but DD only has one jab. No problem I thought, will book her in for her second.

Except that you have to have 12 weeks between the two jabs and it will only be 6 weeks when she needs her second.

We are in the UK but are Irish nationals and I've read that there are different rules for EU passport holders, but can't figure out if they apply travelling from the UK.

How strict are they on the 12 week rule?

Can anyone make sense of the rules?

Fuck.

Can you delay the holiday until the summer time instead?

We've got a summer holiday all booked and this is not a place I'd choose to go in the summer, it's chilled in the winter and manic in the summer. Possibly could delay until October half term.

They won’t do it before 8 weeks (I’m a vaccinator), and you can only get a covid pass 2 weeks post vaccination anyway. The advice is that the likelihood of heart inflammation is slightly higher if you have the second one early.

Thanks @FlyingFlamingo. In my panic last night I miscalculated so if we vaccinated 2 weeks before we travelled then it would be a 10 week gap between the first and second. I'm going to try and get an appointment for the first week in Feb.

That may be doable then, good luck!

ittakes2 · 10/01/2022 08:45

OP - although the NHS website says 12 weeks for kids 12-15 after covid - the system does let you book earlier but the vaccinators do ask about this when you go for the appointment. Its not widely known about the 12 weeks as it used to be 4 weeks and its 4 weeks for adults so some parents don't realise its now 12 weeks for the 12-15s.

This is what I am pinning my hopes on. Does that include EU citizens travelling from the UK?

Yes.

@ittakes2 yes, I completely did not realise. More fool me and I hope this thread helps anyone else hoping to go away during 1/2 term.

The online booking system isn't giving me any appointments before 15 Feb which will be too late but there are walk ins available and DH is going to go tomorrow to see if he can speak to someone f2f.

An update for those interested. Our GP has written a letter giving permission/advice for DD to get her second jab at 8 weeks rather than 12. This will give enough time for her to then get her pass and onto the plane to Spain. Phew!

At the vaccine centres I'm involved with they have still turned patients away even with a GP letter If the reason for early vaccination Is travel as it goes against guidance. Hopefully the vaccine centre you go to isnt as strict as those in my area.
Cookerhood · 21/01/2022 11:03

We are very strict too, although a letter from the GP would probably do it. It's against the guidance in the Green Book so any centres allowing it for a walk in without a letter are going against the JVCI guidance.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 21/01/2022 11:10

Aren't they asking for boosters as well from 1st Feb?

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 21/01/2022 11:45

Boosters for adults, not for children (as far as I understand it). The adults on the trip are boosted.

We have a number of options for where the second injection will happen - they are coming back to her school in early Feb and we finally have some walk in centres locally.
