Anybody caught covid twice in 3 months?

Hi all, DS14 had a positive lft yesterday after developing a cough and lots of sneezing and sore throat. It is almost 3 months since he last caught covid (in a week it’ll be 3 months). We tested as advised on the gov website, only test within 90 days if new symptoms occur.

We tested when he got new symptoms on Wednesday and the lft was negative. We also tested last month because he came down with a headache and cough when his brothers and sister contracted covid but his lft was negative then too. So I’m pretty convinced the positive lft last night wasn’t from a previous infection.

I did think it is likely omicron but if he came down with it on Wednesday when first symptoms occurred surely there would be at least one other person with it in the household given how contagious omicron is. The kids who caught covid last month had delta presumably so they are not necessarily protected from omicron. Me and DH haven’t caught it at all yet.

I guess I’m asking if it’s common to catch it twice in 3 months or could it be omicron even though nobody else has caught it yet? Any anecdotal stories are welcome. I read there’s a less than 5% chance of being reinfected with covid within 90 days but he has a positive lft and symptoms so not sure what to think!

I had friends who caught it twice very close together, presumably different variants.

It's also possible to be the only person in the house with it. I tested positive on Tuesday from NYE along with a number of others I was with on NYE (2 being the second time infected couple). My DH was with us on NYE and is still testing negative, DD also negative still.

I've got friends who've had it in october and january, 10 weeks apart.
It happens.

My son's friend had this happen last week - assume was Delta and then Omicron, feels very unlucky!

Thank you. When he caught it in October nobody else in the house caught it (family of 6) and then the other 3 kids got it in December and me and DH never caught it. I just thought if omicron was the dominant variant and if DS had it then we would have caught it as it’s more contagious.

Yes I feel bad for DS catching it so soon :(

I had a positive pcr beginning of December, I didn’t really have any symptoms, I regularly test for work. On Friday I had new symptoms so took a lft and it was positive. I’ve got bad cold symptoms, sneezing, headache, runny nose. So I believe it’s possible I had Delta in December and now have Omicron. I’m not self isolating though as my work think I can still go to work so I’ll carry on as normal.

My friend had it in November and again at Christmas. Probably delta then omicron. The first time 2 in the household had it and the 2nd time 3 did. She is the only one to have it twice and one person didn't catch either.

@Meandyouandyouandme why on earth do they think it’s ok for you not to isolate? 🤨

Meandyouandyouandme · 09/01/2022 12:58

@Luckymummytoone because they got advice from somewhere and it’s possibly a false positive. It’s only 5 weeks since my positive pcr, so not supposed to test, but I’ve got new symptoms. I’m a social care worker and they are struggling for staff. I’m ok but I’m due to see clients today that are 90+ years old and a couple that are on permanent oxygen. I’ve been told to load up with paracetamol and get on with it.

My son has just tested positive 3 months after having covid.

Where do you work, so I know where to avoid.

Blimey, that’s terrible!
I thought LFTs pick up when you’re most infectious - so you may be at risk of passing it on.

CalmDownBoris72 · 09/01/2022 13:11

The guidance is not to test within 90 days UNLESS you start with new symptoms. The you do tests again.

Meandyouandyouandme · 09/01/2022 13:17

@Iggly yep I think it’s pretty bad, my lft was faint on Friday, took another yesterday and it was bright red, so think I’m at my most infectious now. Hopefully I won’t pass it on to my vulnerable clients. They are desperate for staff, and they’ve ignored the fact I’m unwell with new symptoms. It’s only a cold for me, but not sure how an older vulnerable person will be if they catch it.
