I’m not stupid (I think) but I’m quite confused.

DS (9) returned to school weds. He began with symptoms (raging temp, then sickness, headache) yesterday morning. Negative LFT. I did another evening and it’s a positive.

I am triple vaxxed, never had Covid, have been exposed to it twice before but we segregated, this time I cannot so ‘what will be will be’ really.

DH is recently recovered (early Dec) from Covid, triples vaxxed and has no symptoms and a negative LFT

DD (teen) is 1 x vax and recently recovered (nov) from Covid and has no symptoms and a negative LFT

It’s the further testing and isolation periods I’m confused about. NHS website reads like nothing has changed, but I thought this week it altered to be that an LFT was enough to prove the positive status and that the isolation period has reduced - with freedom after 2 LFTs on day 6/7?

There is nothing to indicate this. It says he needs a PCR (booked, driving MILES for one for him and me later) and it’s 10 days as of the positive test.

Can someone confirm what I’m actually supposed to be doing, please?

Before anyone asks why DH can’t care for him and I stay away to avoid it, I can’t - he goes out to work and I WFH so I’ll need to be around DS all week so it’s a bit pointless.

If symptoms - get PCR
It's 10 days isolation to start with but this can be shortened to 7 days if they get a negative LFT on day 6 and 7 of isolation

If no symptoms and get a positive LFT you don't need a follow up PCR.
Same isolation terms as above.

Contacts that are Vaccinated/under 18 who are testing negative can take daily LFT tests for 7 days and still go to school/work

If he has symptoms he should get a PCR to confirm.

Everyone else should test daily on a lateral flow. But can go out and about as usual. Although I didn't really go out that much when everyone else in the house had covid.

It's up to you if you isolate from him in the house.

Exactly as above. Symptoms = PCR. LFT day 6 and then 24 hours later on day 7. If BOTH negative then released from isolation. Otherwise full 10 days. Close contacts advised to LFT daily as long as under 18 and double jabbed.

I thought that triple vaxxed didn't have to test!

Mykittensmittens · 09/01/2022 09:54

Thanks - am doing the right things then! Appreciated

They do

Hope your son feels better soon. If he has any aches and pains, a hot water bottle has helped me hugely.

Mykittensmittens · 09/01/2022 13:40

Thank you @HoldenCaulfieldismyhomeboy

He’s aching all over - can’t have ibuprofen as he’s asthmatic.

I’m wondering how I’m going to feel as I do think it’s inevitable I’ll get it. DH wasn’t too bad but it did render him incapable for quite a few days. I’m booking a Tesco delivery a lot now for later in the week, just in case.

Its probably only a matter of time, bit you never know!

Being boostered will increase your chances of avoiding it but will not by any means eliminate the possibility of catching it. Fingers crossed for you.
