They are refusing to pcr test.

Couple relatives of mine have been in contact with someone with covid.

They now have some symptoms. They have cold like symptoms with body aches and cough. Generally feeling ill too, fatigue etc. They've done lft's which are negative but refusing to a pcr. Selfish or not?

Could be just a cold but we all had covid in December and it was all cold like symptoms! They have been doing lft's which are all negative. But lft's can be hit and miss imo

I feel given they've been in close contact, current circumstances with omicron and symptoms they should do a pcr test.

Dp had covid in December. A few days later I had some symptoms but was testing negative on both pcr & lft for a good few days before getting a positive.

Ds was the same. Symptoms but took a few days to get a positive test.

They are out doing their dusky business just relying on a lft. Been socialising, shopping etc. Seeing older relatives as they've have a 'negative lft'.

Wrong or am I being ott?

They need to get a PCR as they have one of the official symptoms, a cough.

If they have a new continuous cough, they need to SI and get a PCR. That has been the case since near the start.

Cherrytart23 · 08/01/2022 14:44

Are they isolating despite not getting pcr if so then what's the problem? If not then yes they are being selfish but there is still not alot you can do about it just stay away from them.

They are not isolating.

They are going out doing their usual daily business (I just realised I put dusky business in op, sorry). One went to a party last night despite feeling like crap, because they didn't want to miss out, just dosed up on painkillers...

The other has been in more as they are feeling worse off but has been going to the shop etc!

Wrong.

Blubells · 08/01/2022 15:16

It's wrong but I don't see how a PCR test would make any difference to their behaviour?!

They already know they're positive.

Bluetrews25 · 08/01/2022 15:17

Oh dear. They will feel the ire of their friends after they have passed this one on. Surprising if no-one at the party was a bit Hmm at them.

No, their lft's have been negative. So there is a chance that they do just have a cold but given current circumstances they should be getting a pcr imo!

When we all had covid in December. Lft's worked for 2 of us, but not the other 2. Very hit & miss. They haven't been doing them daily either I don't think.

I know, I would be fuming myself tbh. I think the one who went to the party was feeling marginally better but the other is swill quite poorly!

Maybe their friends aren’t too worried about covid 🤷🏼‍♀️ Assuming they are vaxxed, they probably aren’t.

They are wrong, it sounds like they probably have it but I wouldn’t waste your time being cross about it to be honest. Live your life, not theirs.

Lilifer · 08/01/2022 15:45

What is "dusky business?" 🤔

I'm not cross with them really. But this is very typical of my relatives. They moan at other people not following any covid regulations but don't follow them themselves. They have a very bizarre mind set! We've just had covid in December and it was very mild, like a cold, so I'm not overly worried about it myself!

Lfts are more accurate than people think, about 80%. So very slim chance it is wrong, even slimmer if they continually test. just don’t worry about it

They say that but I didn't get a positive test until 4/5 days after symptoms starting in December. Secondly, Dp caught it off someone at work he has very close contact with, who had relied on lft's, all negative so assumed he had a bad cold - it was covid!

i think the fear has gone for many and now the inconvenience of covid is outweighing the worry. I don't know many testing anymore as most people i know dont give it second thought. people are parties etc i would expect to be pretty relaxed - you need to presume everyone has it and protect yourself. Reactions now are way ott for what had proven to be a very mild infection for almost all. Hopefully tesing full stop will be gone by easter.

LethargeMarg · 08/01/2022 16:54

If they are doing ltfs daily and they have covid I'm sure they will become positive very soon. We had a day or two in our house of feeling a bit coldy (no obvious big three covid symptoms at this point) daily testing negative but by day two or three of the cold had faint positives
I think eventually lateral flows will work but my worry is there's definitely a couple of days when you could be mixing and positive however it does sound like they only go positive when infectious so hopefully they're not to risky?
We tested negative on ltfs on Xmas day - saw family all day then the day after dh started to feel a bit unwell and none of the family we saw Xmas day caught it so even though it was brewing hopefully the negative lateral flow meant we weren't infectious??
Disclaimer-I know this isn't fool proof through !

Blubells · 08/01/2022 17:39

I think you're right. People don't want to be forced to isolate for 7 days when they feel only slightly I'll or not at all.

Blubells · 08/01/2022 17:40

I'll not I'll

Blubells · 08/01/2022 17:40

I doubt it. The type of people who 'fume' about covid are typically those who think its 'unsafe' or 'selfish' to go to parties. Those who do go are usually more relaxed.
