How did you feel during recovery (just can’t shift it)

I’ve had covid and have been out of quarantine for a week now, but I feel like I’ve come down with a cold (I haven’t actually felt better in between, so I’m sure it’s not just a different cold).

When I was in quarantine, I felt awful but didn’t have many symptoms (back pain, fever and tiredness - plus felt dreadful)

My throat is now sore (it wasn't during), I have lost me sense of smell (hadn’t before), I'm sneezing (wasn’t before), a cough has developed and generally feel like I’ve got a lingering cold.

Anyone else? I’m desperate to a get my sense of smell back.

I've not had c ovid so I don't know but my friend had it, was out of isolation and went down with another virus. Just plenty of rest, fluid, vitamins and healthy food. Hope you get better.x

Took me 3 weeks. Felt awful week 1. Very mediocre week 2. On the mend week 3, felt very tired & ‘coldy’ but pushed myself to get out & about with my kids. I felt pretty much normal a month after.

People say to rest rest rest and yes, you do need too but from my experience of nasty illness & feeling complete shite, you also need to rebuild stamina. Gentle walks. Pop to the shops to get food bits. Go to softplay with your kids. Whatever you normally do. Gently. Don’t sit & do nothing. You’ll lose all stamina & feel even worse when you do try to do stuff! One of my lovely consultants in hospital taught me this when I was a teen! And he is right to this day!

Hate to say I still only have 30% of my smell 3 months later 😭 it comes & goes. Some days better than others. It’s very annoying but I’ve got used too it. Thankfully, my taste is about 95% recovered & I’d much rather it this way around!

It took me a couple of months to get back to full speed. I had several colds and when I tried to do normal activities I would have sore muscles etc.
Advice I had and followed was taking multivitamins including zinc and generally looking after diet etc.
You’ll get there just don’t expect to be better tomorrow.

I'm on day 15 since my positive test and now testing negative but feel the worst I've front since getting it. Full of cold, feverish, brain fog, cough, panicky, can't sleep more than 4 hours but feel wiped. Meant to be back at work today but couldn't go.

Thank you. I think I just need to be patient. I now appear to have insomnia - I just can’t sleep. It really doesn’t help, especially when combined with everything else.

Hi op sorry your feeling rubbish my dd had covid in November and really suffered with recovery. She had constant belly ache, sickness, on off headaches and couldn't sleep one minute but really tired the next. I rang the doctor for advice because she was so up and down and the doctor said she had long covid she's only just beginning to feel normal now over 7 weeks on.

BigotSpigot · 12/01/2022 12:17

I had a bad time of it (caught it mid December) and only now really ok again and still my smell is about 70-80%. At around 2-3 weeks it was really up and down from day to day, I kept thinking I was better and would then take a turn for the worse. Then I had a good week to ten days of just terrible headaches which I didn't have when I actually had Covid. I haven't had to take painkillers for 3 days though so they seem to have gone.

scooterbear sorry you are still feeling so bad. It felt like a marathon for me around day 15, terrible brain fog and insomnia etc. and a terrible anxiety/panic that I had never had before. Hopefully in a day or so you will start to feel better.

Dr and paramedic friends have all said you need to take it very gently for a month as it affects so many body systems.

Beekindbeehumble · 12/01/2022 12:50

Week 12. Totally out of breath changing a double bed. Cannot even manage a short jog! Brain fog is improving. I think.

scooterbear · 12/01/2022 17:51

Thankyou @BigotSpigot I feel awful today still but I can't tell if it's Covid or a regular chest infection type thing. Cough is productive so that suggests the latter maybe. I have managed to not have to lie down this afternoon for the first time in two weeks however so I'm calling it a triumph!

user1471509171 · 12/01/2022 18:04

It took me a month to feel better.

BigotSpigot · 12/01/2022 20:53

scooterbear you might have a secondary infection and need antibiotics. My GP told me they had a huge number of people who had chest infections after Covid in this wave.

scooterbear · 12/01/2022 21:41

I might give the dr a ring tomorrow and see what they say.
