Pregnant school staff

My understanding is that school risk assessments determine that it is currently too risky for pregnant staff to work in schools at the moment so they are workign from home.

Really? I thought it depends whether they've had two jabs and a booster.

PAFMO · 07/01/2022 21:56

I have two pregnant fellow teachers, both are in school.

Hercisback · 07/01/2022 21:57

Nope, even last March we had pregnant staff in school.

Jessicabrassica · 07/01/2022 22:14

Nhs staff (2x jabbed and boostered) are non-clinical from 28w. Not sure why it would be different for other high risk occupations.

Covidworries · 07/01/2022 22:23

I understood union advice says its too risky

Are you a teacher? Where did you hear that? All the pregnant teachers I know are currently working in schools as they can’t work from home.
Covidworries · 07/01/2022 22:50

Thanks everyone good to know, must be mistaken

Point of thread?

Covidworries · 07/01/2022 22:54

The point of thread is id been told this was happening in several schools here and was trying to determine if it was across the board or not. Is that ok?

Nope, I’m a TA in reception, the kids have no spacial awareness, are unhygienic and full of germs, I’m 32 weeks pregnant and still in class. I am double jabbed, my kids have just had covid and thankfully I didn’t catch it.

Your post was more of a statement than a question OP but yes my friend is working in school and not from home. She is currently pregnant
Ubercornsdiscoball · 07/01/2022 23:21

I’m front line NHS, 30 weeks pregnant. Still working in A&E

Hercisback · 07/01/2022 23:26

Aren't you the poster who hasn't sent your children back to school?

user1471509171 · 07/01/2022 23:28

GMB sent an email this week saying all vulnerable staff including pregnant women should work from home however our school still has two pregnant staff members over 38 weeks in school. I guess it would be up to those staff members to confront SLT.

Covidworries · 07/01/2022 23:29

@hercisback

Yes we havent sent children back to school

Hercisback · 07/01/2022 23:31

So why are you so bothered about pregnant teachers?

Theres plenty of threads on here with experience of pregnant teachers during covid. A quick Google would have told you your hearsay doesn't reflect reality.

blameitonthecaffeine · 07/01/2022 23:32

My two pregnant colleagues were sent home in the last week of last term to do as much as they could from home. They both started their maternity leave this week anyway so I don't know if they would have continued from home this term. I expect so.

In March 2020, three pregnant colleagues were sent home a week or so before the schools closed. That's how we all found out they must be pregnant!

From Nov 2020-Dec 2020 and March 2022 until double vaxxed, my three CEV colleagues had to work from home too.

So it is true for some schools.

Covidworries · 07/01/2022 23:38

,@hercisback

Well maybe because i dont exist in my own bubble and have friends and relatives.

I know some school staff that are not in person working because of being pregnant and the risk assessment says its not safe.

I thought this was across the board, i was wrong it looks like it is down to individual authorities.
That is interesting, but may also explain why some schools (like ours) are understanding and supportive about at risk children or children with at risk houshold member staying home whilst other families are getting pressured.

In my partners school 3pregnant staff in Jan/Feb 2021 27weeks, 20weeks, 16weeks. All 3 worked from home as of Jan lockdown and didn’t return in March when schools reopened and didn’t start maternity leave any earlier. The advice is there from Unions but ultimately up to the senior management-my partners are very understanding.
