When are you getting booster if you’ve just had covid?

I got covid just before Xmas before having a chance to get the booster (was booked the day after!). Based on the symptoms, likely it was Omicron. The govt website says to wait at least 28 days before getting the booster but I equally feel that I’d want to leave a little longer? Are there other people in this situation?

I got my 'recovered QR' on the 28th Dec. and have to wait at least until February. So you can wait longer if you like.

I had COVID at the end of November. I was planning to leave my booster a bit but someone I know had covid again after only 2 months so I've booked it now.

L0uby1 · 07/01/2022 10:04

It doesn't make any sense to get the booster till at least three months after you've had covid. You will have natural immunity from the virus. I had covid in November and won't be having my booster till March at the earliest. All of my friends who have had covid are doing the same.

EmmaStone · 07/01/2022 10:13

My friends who had Covid recently went for their booster as long as the 4 week period was up. That's what I'd do too to give me best defence against Omicron.

Rispa42 · 07/01/2022 10:15

Thanks all! It’s all so confusing... on the one hand, I want my natural immunity to have a chance to ‘bed’ in, on the other hand, want to be protected against new variants!

Guess it would be interesting to know how many people delayed their 2nd jab if they contracted covid after the 1st!

Me. Tested positive the day before my second jab was due in August. I got my second jab a month after testing positive because I wanted to be fully jabbed for travel purposes. It's worth remembering that in the coming weeks fully vaccinated in England will probably mean 3 jabs for adults, so if you ever are a close contact you may have to isolate if you haven't had 3 jabs.

True! Don’t want to fall too far behind in case there’s a fourth needed next year!

I tested positive on the 8th December and will be having my booster this coming Sunday. I'm pretty sure we had Delta. With DD back at secondary school I feel it's only matter of time before she brings it home again. I was rough last time and whilst I know the booster potentially won't stop transmission I am hoping we won't be so poorly next time.

Riomama · 07/01/2022 13:57

Same here- had covid the first week of December and am booked to get the booster on 11th Jan. I think I had delta and my vaccinations were AZ, so I don’t think I am well protected against omicron according to most reports

pumpkinpie01 · 07/01/2022 14:14

I had covid 3 week of nov and booster was booked for 29/12 I cancelled it and intend to go back n March /April .

KylieKoKo · 07/01/2022 14:18

I have a feeling that we will need to have been boosted to be considered fully vaccinated which could then affect travel and getting into venues that require covid passes.

user1471509171 · 07/01/2022 19:38

I had Covid the end of November so assume it was Delta. Would normally have waited awhile but hearing Omnicron evades immunity and working in a school I got it 4 weeks after my positive just in case.

He makes sense, I have always asked why antibodies are not looked at. I feel sorry for the consultant

PollyIndia · 07/01/2022 20:04

I had positive pcr 6 dec (pretty sure delta) and booster 6 jan. I’m not worried about getting omicron so I was in 2 minds, but my mum is probably classed as vulnerable and I would like to see her end jan, plus I am going to Sri Lanka in Feb so want to stay negative for those 2 reasons. The pharmacist said i would defo feel shit and I felt fine. I agree that 3 will be required for travel soon.

Kca29 · 07/01/2022 21:09

We all had covid in early to mid December. Dp is having his booster this weekend which is a few days over 28 days after covid. Mine is next week...

I'm not overly fussed in having it so soon after covid. Also, our symptoms were mild but I guess we have nothing to lose getting it done and having a little more protection. Unsure if we had delta or omicron.

I think we will have to booster to be considered 'fully vaccinated' soon enough although people had thought 'fully dosed' would be after 2 jabs for most of us... 🤦‍♀️

Akire · 07/01/2022 21:15

I was told wait 28 days only. Was about 35 in end because Xmas and new year. I presumed I had Delta because Omicron was just being talked about when I caught it. Since the whole reason for booster is Omicron didn’t see any reason to wait.

Booster form asked me if had covid in last 28 days then in last 3 m but no further advice given.

CallMeNutribullet · 08/01/2022 02:47

It's 4 weeks. I had it at the beginning of November, was boosted just after Xmas and now I have omicron. Yay.

shouldistop · 08/01/2022 06:42

In Scotland you need to have had the booster to be considered vaccinated (even though not everyone has had the opportunity to have it yet Hmm) so I'd just get it as soon as you can incase the rest of the uk implement the same rule.

Delatron · 08/01/2022 08:21

I had Covid mid Dec (presumed Omicron) I wanted to wait and use all the antibodies but we’re off to Austria in Feb and you need the booster. Annoying as I don’t fancy feeling ill again so soon after Covid.

If I’d had Delta I’d be happy to have it so soon as Delta doesn’t protect against omicron (and obviously it’s everywhere) but omicron does give good protection against delta.

I’m very pro-vaccine but for me I feel two is enough. Especially as so many people are suffering from side effects with the booster.

Also be aware some countries (Austria) have changed their rules so vaccine validity only lasts 6 months. This is all very concerning for travel.

I’m done after the booster!

Rispa42 · 08/01/2022 15:24

Thanks, that’s helpful! Just out of interest, what were your covid symptoms from Omicron? Did you have a fever? I was pretty reluctant to get the booster initially but my omicron symptoms weren’t minor.

My main symptom was fatigue. Not stay in bed all
day fatigue but didn’t feel great either. Could pootle around the house. But lots of lying on the sofa too. Had muscle aches for one day.

DH was ill at same time and he had more of a sore throat and cough. Plus the fatigue.
