I signed my dd (4 yo) up for an extracurricular activity and we've got a trial period starting this weekend. I am quite excited for her but at the same timeI am worried if she should be doing extracurricular activities with millions isolating atm and Omicron running riot ? She goes to a nursery attached to a school atm 5 days a week. So please tell me lovely mnetters, are your 4/5/6 year olds currently doing any extracurricular activities apart from swimming? Tia

Yep, my 4-year- old to music classes and he'll still be going

AdriannaP · 07/01/2022 03:55

My 6 year old does ballet. Windows are open and girls are at a distance. She already caught Covid last year at school so I am not particularly worried about extracurricular stuff.
She also goes to swimming classes.

VikingOnTheFridge · 07/01/2022 07:14

Yep

Spacemonkey2016 · 07/01/2022 07:27

Absolutely.

WaltzingTilda · 07/01/2022 10:34

Thank you so much for replyingFlowers. Its reassuring to know that your little ones are still doing their extracurricular activities.

Yep! They’ve missed out on enough.

TeddyTonks · 07/01/2022 10:36

Yes. Swimming and rugby.

Bobholll · 07/01/2022 10:42

Yes, gymnastics, dancing & rainbows here (&swimming) No way we are stopping them unless they get stopped!

Giveaschitt · 07/01/2022 11:03

Yes, two sports plus swimming, Beavers, after school clubs. Already had covid with zero symptoms, I've no intention of curtailing his life further than it needs to be!

randomsabreuse · 07/01/2022 11:07

Gymnastics, Music, Tennis and Athletics and 4 year old does multi sports. More important with schools still being quite limited in what they're offering.

Also widens friendship opportunities, and kids need to be physically active for future health - developing the core early is good for them.

MarshaBradyo · 07/01/2022 11:10

Yes still doing ballet and will do swimming

kleew1 · 07/01/2022 11:12

Yep, my 4yo does gymnastics, drama, ballet and swimming. It sounds a lot but only 45 minures/an hour at a time. Hoping none get cancelled!

Incognito22333 · 07/01/2022 11:47

Yes, ballet, swimming and gymnastics.
We are in the London area. 1 in 10 are meant to have Omicron. Can’t escape it anyway. Every time I go shopping, on a bus etc

We are focussing on immune system - vitamins, fresh air, lots of sleep etc. Also mental health and positivity and clubs are important for that, as far as I am concerned. Plus supporting those persons. Local swim school businesses were decimated by previous lockdowns.

LadyCleathStuart · 07/01/2022 11:53

Yes ballet class, modern dance class and Rainbows in addition to swimming. Hoping nothing gets cancelled but so far its all looking ok and we are in Scotland so a lot more restrictions here but they leaving the kids alone for now at least.

Dghgcotcitc · 07/01/2022 11:59

Yes

BlingLoving · 07/01/2022 12:07

Yes, everything I can. She needs the exercise and the stimulation and we can't live in a bunker mentality forever. She has activities 4 times a week, all of which she loves.

Helbelle17 · 07/01/2022 12:09

Yes, she's missed out on enough already.

Jelly0naplate · 07/01/2022 12:20

we've not had covid and while we did reduce some events before christmas as we were seeing elderly relative over the festive period, our daily lives run as normal as possible. Schools sports club, swimming, beavers and cubs and music lessons being attended and supported.

A key thing to remember that many of these extra curricular activities are run by small, local businesses. If you don't support them now they won't survive long term

RichTeaRichTea · 07/01/2022 12:21

Yes, thank goodness they are all still happening

CovidForChristmas · 07/01/2022 12:23

Yes, if they are running we are going.

HSHorror · 07/01/2022 12:32

Yes despite still trying to avoid covid.
Dc1 does brownies and now cubs
Dc2 rainbows /beavers and a school after sport club (rugby/multisport/cricket/gym etc)

We havent returned to swimming as dc1 seems to have passed the school standard so doesnt need to go with school. Dc2 would love it im sure but always used to swallow and lot of water and get sick so really doesnt need more time off school. Plus at only 6 and already onto stage 2 can probably afford to take a break.

DockOTheBay · 07/01/2022 12:34

No, but nothing to do with covid. I just think it is too much for her to handle - she is already knackered from school. I have her name down to start Rainbows in April so we will do that and swimming but nothing else until at least next academic year.

Incidentally I run Brownies and none of our girls are stepping back due to covid concerns (and we are meeting inside with no social distancing)

Lesina · 07/01/2022 12:36

Yes; swimming football music club and after school sports club. He missed enough.

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 07/01/2022 12:38

If they are on they are going after all that they missed out on for some long
We have rainbows, ballet, swimming for all three, scouts and football club too.

AegonT · 07/01/2022 15:09

Weekly swimming and gymnastics and extra things in the school holidays like climbing, ski-school and sports camp. She's 6 now, we've done things whenever it's allowed since the pandemic began when she turned 5. We've only just caught covid, she doesn't have it yet.
