Isolation kids

Hello,
My son has tested positive (6yo) for Covid. The second time in 6 weeks.
Does the 7 day isolation rule apply to kids if they test negative on the 6/7th day?
Thanks

Did he have symptoms again?
A PCR can pick up fragments of an old infection so you arent supposed to test again unless they have new symptoms

Yes, the 7 day isolation guidelines apply to children in England.

But it would be pretty unlikely that your DS has contracted Covid again within 6 weeks. Did he have new key symptoms and a positive PCR? You're not supposed to do LFTs at all within 90 days of previous infection, and PCR during that time only if new onset of cough, fever or change to smell/taste.

If he's had a positive PCR he will have to isolate though.

Maybe he caught Delta before and it’s Omicron this time?

He has tested negative for 2 weeks now. He was really quite poorly yesterday and was advised to do another test..which came up positive.
Could this be off the old virus when he has tested negative for 2 weeks then? I’m so confused with it all.

He hasn't been doing PCRs for 2 weeks though, has he?

dementedpixie · 06/01/2022 09:55

If he's unwell he's best in isolation anyway.

No lateral flows..I did him one on the 10th day he tested positive the first time and then to go to my mums house on new year we had to do them as she works in a hospital so we just wanted to make sure me and him were both negative .
