Stupid school

I don’t know whether to blame the school or the government
As I write my child has been crushed in a queue of 200 kids - the last 20 minutes indoors - waiting for a LFT to see if they are negative so they can return to school tomorrow
The sheer stupidity of testing for an infectious disease in a crush of a queue is mind boggling
The teachers won’t let him go (I told him to walk out of the queue) as he says it is a D of E directive. He is 13 and doesn’t have the confidence to turn around himself (he is texting me)

Oh I missed all the deleted posts about it but it was also used on another thread I'm on in a way which I'm sure is "not in the spirit"

@Rekorderlig88

Why aren't they testing at home and uploading to the government app
Very easy to fake! Our school wanted to witness them.

Also, not everyone has/can get hold of home test kits. If the schools require testing for pupils to go back, they need to provide the kits.

Sidehustle99 · 05/01/2022 17:15

Stupid school had DC test last lesson yesterday 🤦‍♀️ after a full day of mixing

It's too easy to "cheat"

Bad management. Our school arranged the staggered testing in Dec, so children went in different times and there's no queue or confusion.

Bagamoyo1 · 05/01/2022 17:18

Testing is not compulsory. I've withdrawn consent for both my kids, and I will test them at home.

tootyfruitypickle · 05/01/2022 17:19

Mine tested after a morning of lessons!

Hi all, we've made an edit to the OP/title and removed some posts- in the hope that the discussion can continue without being derailed. Hopefully things will get back on track now.

Honestly small form groups at a certain time - an hour waiting .... covid spreader

Have you been in an average secondary school recently?! If you are concerned about covid being spread, schools are really not the place for you.

The government is worried about Covid spreading in schools and has thus directed that students test before they go back. The whole point of pre school testing is to weed out students who are infected before they go back so when they do mix in the course of a normal school Day the risk is minimised Pre going back to school testing in a crowd of several hundred kids indoors is pointless as it is essentially a super spreader event. It defeats the point.

We were asked to test the night before, then year groups staggered over three days (150 per year), all looked good. Then DS had a friend who found out he was positive after his parent registered the test that evening, he'd not been called out of class for whatever reason so was at school all day..

SuffolkDreams · 05/01/2022 17:50

If the crushing bit is true, then it sounds like an extremely badly organised school where they can’t control the kids.

rwalker · 05/01/2022 17:51

All the schools round here have staggered test times . Seem the school not organised it well

Should the government really have to spoon feed guidance . School are old hands at this now they got experience and systems in place .

Did you actually see the crush .

TheHoptimist · 05/01/2022 17:52

Why is the deceased Duke of Edinburgh to blame?

KeepingAnOpenMind · 05/01/2022 17:54

When will this madness end?

clarepetal · 05/01/2022 17:55

I work in a school and have been testing kids all day.
It's a lot of work to sanitise everything and run smoothly but we tested three year groups today.
Yes, we could ask students to test at home, but quite frankly, there are a lot of kids who can't even remember to bring a pen in, therefore I wouldn't trust them to do a test and do it right.
Even if your kid is standing around in a queue with 200 other kids, I still think that's safer as they are all getting tested! We had only positive student today.

RobotValkyrie · 05/01/2022 17:58

Why do they need to get all the kids in the same place to get them tested? Can't they just get them tested at their desk in their own classroom? (= the classroom they're meant to attend first thing in the morning)

WeAllHaveWings · 05/01/2022 17:59

Ours are asked to test at home twice a week and from what I have heard in our area most pupils and parents are willing, actively test and mask wearing is the norm.

What a waste of everyone's time to test in school hours, but everyone knows the reasons why schools feel they have to do something.

PrivateHall · 05/01/2022 17:59

Thankfully ours were asked to test at home, not in school. This does seem crazy but I would be hesitant in blaming the school, school staff must be very stressed at the minute and I doubt they would deliberately do something to increase the spread of covid.

I have a photo. It’s not a crush which would be touching bodies. But it’s not an organised line either. Elbow distance

So they’re in a crush yet they’re standing a foot apart Hmm how do you crush someone you’re not even touching?

steppemum · 05/01/2022 18:59

I don;t understand the school testing at all.

Ours spread it out over 2 days, so no crushes.
but my kids travel to school, so they were expected to travel, do a 10 second test and then travel home.

i politely told school they would tests at home and I would email in the results, which I have.

They were not in a dangerous crush of bodes. But they were herded together tightly packed in a corridor for a long time while waiting to be tested for a highly infectious disease. They were not 2M apart they were not 1m apart. So it was a risk.
