Whether to get booster month or 2 after Covid

I had Covid early November.

I'm trying to balance out different factors on whether to get my booster now or wait a few weeks. Some thoughts on might help my indecision. Thank you for reading!

  • reinfection quite likely with Omicron especially now child back at primary school. Would be good to be protected but will still take a week or 2 to kick in now?
  • but hybrid immunity meant to be good (vaccines + infection) - protection against serious illness at least if not reinfection?
  • vaccine too close to infection might be less effective or even more likely to have side effects. NHS say one month but other countries longer, and children meant to wait 3 months. Maybe if I wait I'm already quite well protected, fingers crossed, then once this wanes I can get boosted.

I am three weeks past the start of Covid so probably Omicron but could be Delta and in the same boat. I am going to test my antibodies, both to the vaccine and to Covid, possibly every 6 weeks or so and see how they are before I have a booster (I had problems with the first vaccines so having a booster isn't straightforward). I used this website for the tests before: monitormyhealth.org.uk/#viewOurTests

Thank you for replying! Good to know I'm not alone. I suppose postponed boosters must be quite common now too (if someone catches Covid before their booking). It's difficult.

How are you feeling 3 weeks on?

I am not feeling great, but then the vaccines made me really ill (very unlucky). I have been told to take it very easy for at least 4 weeks and I really don't want long covid on top of my other post-vaccine issues.

I had Covid (second time) in early November. I had my booster just before Christmas as I was hoping to avoid omicron variant. Really not sure of the best time to have it post Covid. My first 2 vaccinations were AZ. Booster was Moderna.

@BigotSpigot sorry to hear that. I hope you don't get long Covid.

@newnameagain99 I get that, family would have liked me to get it before the end of the year. Mine were Pfizer which perhaps helps me feel I can wait. But hopefully you are nicely boosted and even better prepared now!

Similar situation to me, I had it early Dec. My teenager had it before me. He has to wait 12 weeks before he can have his vaccination (it will be his first dose) so I thought I would just book it for both us after his 12 weeks is up. After being double jabbed and having mild covid I assume I have protection for a while so I’m not in any rush.

I had what was presumably delta in mid-November. I have no plans of getting the booster as I've effectively had a better one by getting covid. It leaves the option open of getting a booster later on if any need arises, say if a nastier variant emerges that the jab was effective against, since the booster and jab effects seem to wane so fast.

Before getting covid I was already unsure about getting the booster as I don't want pfizer as I have a heart condition (my first two jabs were AZ) but the ptb seem desperate to push it on everyone.

My husband got covid the week before me (and gave it to me) and had a booster about a week ago. I don't understand why but it's his body, his choice. He's ended up with three doses of pfizer for some reason Hmm
