Recurring 'Cold' After Covid

DuchessOfDodo · 05/01/2022 09:14

I had covid about 6 weeks ago and the week itself was relatively mild (like a bad cold really, except one day which was worse than that).

I seemed to recover ok but since then I've had two bouts of feeling like I've caught a cold:

  • headache
  • sore throat
  • coughing
  • aches
  • chills

I tested negative both times for covid. However, I am wondering if these symptoms themsleves are directly linked or if I've just been unlucky and genuinely caught two colds - which is most unlike me as I work from home.

Anyone else had similar?

I’m 6weeks and still sneezing 6-10 times a day. Still have tingly “coming down with something nose” sometimes snotty, sometimes still a cough. It’s more annoying than anything

Long covid?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/01/2022 12:55

Isn't long covid 12 weeks or more?

ExcaliburBaby · 05/01/2022 12:58

I had this for a couple of months after. Every few days I’d start to feel like I was getting a cold and had to hit the Lemsip.

Hopeislost · 05/01/2022 12:58

Similarly I found that straight after Covid I caught several bugs in succession (cold, tummy bug). I reckon it's because my immune system had taken a hit fighting the Covid.

MidSummersNightmare · 05/01/2022 13:19

It’s 22 days since I tested positive and I feel like I have it again. It’s not supposed to be possible to get it again so soon so I’m assuming it’s another bug or a post viral thing.
Both kids have runny noses too which normally would mean nothing but I’ve been worrying about us infecting people.

Somewhat reassuring to hear other people have experienced it (even if I'd rather we were all 100% well again!). It's just so odd because it's almost like the long term impact is as great as the original illness - whether it's due to covid still being in my system or due to my immune system having taken a hammering so unable to fight off minor bugs I ormally wouldn't have noticed.

Lemsip shares must be through the roof by now Grin

@MidSummersNightmare that's what I was thinking the first time this happened: it felt exactly like the return of covid but all tests were negative and I didn't think it possible to catch it again so soon.

But now I feel like I'm coming down with covid/a cold again in the same way and I guess I just wanted to hear other people had the same and it eventually stopped...

I had long covid, prevaccine and found symptoms recurred in cycles of approximately every three weeks or if I over exerted myself. It's nearly 22 months now and still have VERY mild symptoms including sinus headaches, runny nose, scratchy sensitive throat which often makes me choke/cough/sneeze plus excessive fatigue after couple of days work. I'd suggest it's still post covid symptoms. Not suggesting you will be that bad, I work in hospital and got massive viral load from patient pre PPE and I'm over 60💐

This really resonates and is my experience, thanks @Mossstitch

I had the same and tested negative on PCR despite my partner testing positive.

I suspect it was a cold or other viral infection which i was exposed to and possibly lower immunity to that due to the recent covid infection.

Kca29 · 05/01/2022 19:59

Following with interest. I had covid recently and some days I have random sneezes, runny nose and sore throat. Some days fine, the next it happens. I could be fine for a few days then back again. I tested positive in December. My sinuses were badly affected so I guess they aren't fully back to normal yet causing the symptoms - I have sinus issues anyway. 🤷‍♀️

I've had Covid twice. Initial infection seemed very mild but both times I had reoccurring symptoms. I think even though it mild it seems to be heavy on the immune system. Even my kids were up and down for about a month afterwards.
