Does anyone get long Covid anymore …

I’m not hearing much about long Covid anymore. I wondered if this was still a thing? Or if at all happens with the omicron variant? Anyone know anything? I also wonder who are the people going into hospital these days, invades- double jabbed - boosted - ethnic minority- overweight- older. There doesn’t seem to be much talk about this either

No idea about omicron but I’m still here and really suffering with it nearly 2 years on from first getting Covid. I gradually improved to an extent but the fatigue got worse and worse n the few months before October…the. I caught it again and now LC has gone up several more gears and given me new symptoms and I feel so disabled with it. I’m struggling to work 20 hours per week in my easy job and I can’t do basic things like cooking and cleaning. I feel like I should be in bed every minute of every day. This is without even going into the multiple symptoms I have. It really concerns me that so many people could develop this if omicron also causes it.

Long covid is over 6 weeks isn’t it? Omicron was barely known to be in the UK 6 weeks ago.

BigotSpigot · 04/01/2022 20:54

I am on day 21 of (guessing Omicron) and still really unwell. I had very bad reactions to both (AZ) vaccines though (Long Covid -like and now diagnosed with ME/CFS amongst other things). I think I will be lucky not to have Long Covid....

Andoffwego that is just dreadful, especially getting it a second time.

Itsonlyme21 · 04/01/2022 21:24

Andoffwego Really sorry to hear the is. Must be really tough
BigotSpigot Get well soon

Depends who you ask, there doesn't seem to be a universally agreed definition. Which is part of the reason the data is so poor I expect. A couple of weeks ago ONS was defining anyone with even mild symptoms after 4 weeks as long covid, which isn't very helpful.

Thank you @BigotSpigot and @Itsonlyme21 I get sick of moaning about it but also kind of feel that if I don’t mention it everyone will assume I am fine. I’m far from fine. I wish I could shrug and say “ah, I’m sure it’ll get better soon” like I did for the first 18 months, but I genuinely think this is it for me now. I don’t think it’s going to get better at all, only worse.

I have LC from catching covid back in July 2021. Was saying to a friend yesterday that it will be interesting to see if the omicron variant causes it or not too but as its still too early to know yet its not being discussed. I'm awaiting pcr results again. Praying this doesn't trigger yet more LC symptoms. I had the booster in November which definitely improved my LC so it would be s kick in the teeth tbh.

I was in hospital in August with covid and pneumonia and I'm now officially a long covid patient. My consultant told me that if you still have symptoms after 12 weeks, it's then long covid. I'm waiting to have another CT scan because my lungs are scarred, a lung function test and I'm seeing a physio who is teaching me how to breathe properly again. I've got loads of symptoms and my hair is falling out, I feel very miserable but trying not to let it beat me!

LaChatte · 04/01/2022 23:43

Coming up to my first covid anniversary, very little improvement (some things ate actually worse). I fucking hate covid.

Aimeehedge · 05/01/2022 00:02

My doctor said they don’t diagnose long Covid till12 weeks so it’s too soon to know either Omicron.

I developed it after catching what was most likely Delta whilst double jabbed.

LizzieW1969 · 05/01/2022 00:07

I have LC, I've had it since the end of February 2020. I've improved gradually over the last year and I'm managing to cope with life again in a limited way. I'm also undergoing rehab now with the Long Covid clinic in the city where I live.

There's no way of knowing whether Omicron can cause LC as yet, as it's so new. Time will tell, but the fact that the vast majority of people have been vaccinated surely substantially reduces the risk now?

LizzieW1969 · 05/01/2022 00:09

@Aimeehedge

I'm really sorry you developed LC despite being double jabbed, that's very unfortunate. Flowers

Thank you. I’m sorry that you have been ill with it for so much longer than me. Flowers

I feel unlucky although on the lucky side my doctors are being very good and have done many tests and referred me to the clinic. I do feel like I’m improving very very slowly and feel lucky to not have experienced how bad it could have been without vaccines and swift help.

I don’t think it’s super rare. It’s currently thought that two jabs halved your risk of long Covid. Half the chance is a lot less but still a fair chance. www.kcl.ac.uk/news/double-vaccination-halves-risk-of-long-covid

Hopefully the third jabs will have decreased the risk much further still!

The ONS estimates 1.3m people had persistent symptoms after Covid for 4 weeks or more. More than 500,000 report symptoms beyond a year. Almost 250k say it is affecting their ability to do daily activities "a lot"
