FFS It's impossible to make an appointment with my GP again. "Unless it's an emergency"
Surely you's go to A&E in that case?!

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/01/2022 09:23

Ours have basically said not to bother calling them unless u r dying

All the effort going onto a vaccine.programe that never ends as it runs out every fee weeks.

Of course u end up having to go to a&e then they justify closing drs even more cos they just blame covid.

I dread to think whats been.kissed as a result its ridiculous and dangerous

Mindymomo · 04/01/2022 09:26

Our GP Practice has been pretty good to be fair. If you ring early enough, you get a call back from GP who will decide if you need seeing and will make an appointment. I have a friend admitted to hospital 3 days ago with a suspected stroke, had scan and MRI scan, but waiting for someone to look at them.

middleager · 04/01/2022 09:29

I haven't been able to see mine or get an appointment since the pandemic started.

AcasterTwins · 04/01/2022 09:29

It's disgraceful, they're the only service that hasn't opened back up as normal.

I think they got used to doing less for the same money. Ours aren't even doing vaccines and you still can't get in to see them.

From talking to the district nurses that supported my dad, they're seeing a lot more people that have had cancer diagnosed too late for treatment.

Dad's cancer was diagnosed after an A&E visit. For months we kept telling the GP something was wrong, but all they did was repeat blood tests and ignore the results.

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 05/01/2022 08:19

This is what the Tories want.
If they break the system enough, those that can will go private.

Me neither.

Phone appointment in a fortnight if you're lucky.

Whitefire · 05/01/2022 08:36

I rang this morning and waiting for a callback, I need to be seen (suspected chest infection) so fingers crossed they will see me.

It is ridiculous though, I'm ill and feel already I will need to plead my case.

I popped into my local town centre. There is a brand new private GP service.

The government has cut everything to the bone. I live in a solid blue area, everyone moans about poor services but refuses to pay more tax.

Rupertpenrysmistress · 05/01/2022 09:03

I must be really lucky then, I almost feel guilty, my practice is amazing. I use an online consult and get an immediate response as to when to expect a call. My daughter has had several issues sorted and my fil has had excellent service.

Tbf my practice has always been great. I do agree though, I think it's part of the government plan to run the NHS down. GP's should not have to run the vaccination programme they have their own workload.

FflosFfantastig · 05/01/2022 09:24

Yes, and this means people get inappropriately routed or taking themselves off to a&e. This is part of the problem contributing to overwhelmed hospitals, that and isolating staff, years of under funding etc. It is absolutely impossible to see a GP here as well. It's wrong. Health problems will get diagnosed later in some cases meaning that when people require treatment they are more ill.

Danikm151 · 05/01/2022 09:40

I’ve given up on my drs.
The receptionists act like you are a pariah.?Call at 8:30 to get an appointment to be told none left when you can’t book more than 24 hours in advance.

I was dreading trying to get an appointment this week but I managed to get one the next day with my GP via the online booking system. No questions about whether it was an emergency or needed to be face to face. Our surgery seems to be back to normal aside from limited patients allowed in the waiting room and reduced hours (the evening and early morning surgery has gone).

I really feel for those struggling to get an appointment. The NHS as a whole seems to be broken watching the news this morning.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 05/01/2022 09:57

@WhenSheWasBad can I ask how much it cost?

alloalloallo · 05/01/2022 10:55

I’ve been having issues with my GP too

I need a prescription for my daughter - they won’t give us a repeat prescription due to the type of medication.

I would usually fill in an e-consult and a doctor will call me, then send the prescription through to the pharmacy.

However, they’ve now removed the e-consult and when I finally managed to get through to the surgery they told me they won’t issue the prescription without seeing DD, but they won’t see DD as it’s not an emergency and they’re concentrating on the booster roll out.

Lipsandlashes · 05/01/2022 11:00

I had to go in for a smear test the other week - absolutely empty at 9.30am (surely peak time for a GP practice?) Four receptionists working and I heard one on the phone saying all the GPs were working from home. I’d like GPs to explain why it’s ok for all their receptionists and the practice nurse to go into work and not then? I’d also like to ask why they think it’s ok to work at home and not see patients when doctor’s and nurses in hospital are at crisis point?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 05/01/2022 11:03

Our have been triaging on the phone and seeing face to face throughout.

KiloWhat · 05/01/2022 11:04

Mines been absolutely brilliant. Couldn't praise them enough.

autismandgin · 05/01/2022 11:10

My GP surgery is amazing! I feel terrible that others are facing issues….

I literally call up and my doctor will either see me or call me on the same day! Even when it isn’t an emergency. This is the main practice for the City.

I do think things like Healthwatch are a waste of money! Blush barely anyone knows they exist and they make no difference locally. Apart from dish out free merchandise at shows!

Cookerhood · 05/01/2022 11:13

Our have told us not to contact them unless we think we have cancer Confused. DH contacted them but no-one has seen him and they have accepted his self-diagnosis.

TrivialSoul · 05/01/2022 11:15

Mine have been excellent. They already had an online triage and booking system before the pandemic and it functions really well. I can check on it which doctors are working so if I want to request my own GP then I know which days they are working. I can request email, telephone or video appointment and admin staff message to say who will be in touch, how they will contact you and approximately when. My dh has requested a phone appointment a couple of times and been asked to go in for a face to face appointment as they felt it was necessary. Can't fault my surgery at all.

moostermum · 05/01/2022 11:18

Same here. Luckily I get 3 free private doctor appointments through work so had to use that. It's called doctor care anywhere and it would normally be £60. Same day appointment and private prescription. Be aware though, pharmacies can charge what they want for private prescriptions so it was £15 for some standard antibiotics.

ilovesooty · 05/01/2022 11:19
