I tested positive on the 27th, due to finish isolation on Thursday. I'm still testing extremely positive on lateral flows so no early leaving for me. I'm CEV and on Molnupiravir 8 tablets a day. I'm also taking 5 days of steroids because I feel so unwell and my asthma has kicked off hugely.

My initial symptoms were a really sore throat and a horrible dry cough. All my sore throat symptoms had gone and I was starting to feel better apart from fatigue but from yesterday my throat is so sore again, I've had a look and it's so swollen with so much pus all over the back of my throat. My dr won't see me because I'm still positive for Covid and has prescribed antibiotics over the phone but I still feel incredibly unwell

I'm having to spit out saliva as it hurts too much to swallow it and my ear is so sore I have to move my jaw forward to get some relief from the pressure inside my ear. I've got a really high temperature (39.8) after ibuprofen and I just feel so shit.

Should i call 111 again? They said I couldn't attend my local a&e department because I have Covid but oh my god I have to do something as I can't live like this

Please call 111 again as this sounds awful. I speak as someone who had Covid quite severely too in the first wave.
They don’t want people rocking up to A&E but there are arrangements for positive people who need to be seen in person.

DipYourPenisInMyBeaker · 04/01/2022 05:36

That sounds horrid and I feel for you. I wonder if some old fashioned remedies may help relieve some of your symptoms? I know it’s not the same, but NHS suggest hot water and salt for tonsillitis www.nhs.uk/conditions/tonsillitis/

Does your local area have a triage for covid patients? I’m in Manchester and a few months ago one of my kids tested positive and the other one had symptoms but was negative (they get recurring chest infections). We called the GP and was referred to a covid centre, basically a GP surgery which only dealt with patients with covid/potential covid.

AnyFucker · 04/01/2022 05:49

It is possible you are developing quinsy if you are struggling to swallow saliva. Please call 111 again and be sure to tell them this.

This can develop into a medical emergency and sepsis if left untreated

SNUG2022 · 04/01/2022 06:03

Yes I thought quinsy.

Wilkolampshade · 04/01/2022 06:25

Please do call 111 OP.

Yes I agree, you need to phone and emphasise you can not swallow and say you are concerned about quinsy.

This page says when to call 999 and when to call 111: www.nhs.uk/conditions/tonsillitis/

Difficulty swallowing should not be ignored.

baroqueandblue · 04/01/2022 07:00

Nothing useful to add to previous suggestions OP but want to say you're in my thoughts and you will get through this. Make releasing the anxiety your top priority after calling 111. You're going to be OK, or there'll be trouble! As tough as it is, focus on mentally relaxing all the bits of your body from your toes up, methodically, and let go of your fearful thoughts. This too shall pass. Hug!

crushedgrape · 04/01/2022 07:03

Please make sure you're seen today, you sound very unwell. There are hot hubs you can go to if you have Covid and need seeing. Ring 111.

LemonCake79 · 04/01/2022 07:03

You sound like me when I was admitted for quinsy a few years ago. Pus all over my throat and unable to swallow. My tonsils also started to bleed. The pain was awful.

Are you able to swallow the antibiotics? How long have you been on them?

You poor thing. Hope you manage to get seen.

AnyFucker · 04/01/2022 10:51

How are you today, op ?

Have you got some medical attention ?

Dontletthemuggglesgetyoudown · 04/01/2022 12:53

I got DH to take me to a&e and he went in and told them I was Covid +ve I then got moved into a side room, I've had iv antibiotics and pain relief, I've got Quinsy which is delightful. Thank you for all the support this morning!

SNUG2022 · 04/01/2022 12:56

Thank goodness! I hope you recover soon.

Bobholll · 04/01/2022 13:52

Thank goodness OP. The advice you can’t go to A&E with covid is complete nonsense! That’s the entire reason they have red zones & green zones & covid wards etc!

Hope you feel much better soon!

shreddednips · 04/01/2022 15:07

You poor thing, quinsy is awful! Thank goodness your Dh took you in!

rrhuth · 04/01/2022 15:10

I am so relieved you have been seen Flowers

Dontletthemuggglesgetyoudown · 04/01/2022 15:23

It's being drained this afternoon. I'm feeling a hell of a lot better than I was this morning but I feel horrendous in general. I work in the same hospital I'm currently in, I'm on a Covid ward because I have Covid but I'm not sick with Covid now, just testing positive still. I hope I can go home today but I think I need a couple of days of antibiotics.
I got DH to call my work and tell them I won't be in for another week I'm too sick to go anywhere but bed. I went for a walk to the loo earlier and got all sweaty. This is horrible but thank you for helping me see clearly this morning. I am a nurse but when you're really sick and being told something you don't have the energy to fight.

I'm pleased you are getting help bow OP. I know how painful it is. Please make sure your pain is being managed as well as the infection.

I was given some lovely drugs in your situation. I hadn't slept for days with the pain so managing the pain so I could sleep was very much needed.

Hope you're home soon.

rrhuth · 04/01/2022 17:17

You absolutely must not work too soon, a full week off at least

Topseyt · 04/01/2022 17:31

I am glad you are getting help now. All this bullshit about not going to A & E when you are really unwell (and the GP won't see you) totally hacks me off.

I used to get regular quinsies. They are horrendous and are a medical emergency. The problem only resolved when I had my tonsils removed. It was years ago now, but I have never forgotten the pain, the inability to swallow and having to sit up in a chair all night because I couldn't breathe if lying down.

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

AnyFucker · 04/01/2022 18:13

Yep, thought it was quinsy. Very nasty.

You can self certify for 28 days now so take the time you need. So glad you are beginning to feel better. I hope you get home soon Flowers www.gov.uk/taking-sick-leave
Siuan · 04/01/2022 18:45

Glad you're getting treated OP.
So many people have mild symptoms that it can take you by surprise when covid makes you really poorly. The isolation period is fine for those who are asymptomatic but it's not a measure of when you have to go back to work if ill.
I had a very nasty dose of covid despite vaccination and was ill for about 6 weeks and not fully back to normal for 3 months.
Take it slowly, don't push yourself too hard.
