Delaying sending DC back to school due to covid - thoughts?

bubblesaway · 03/01/2022 19:31

Just that really. Thinking of not sending DC (4) back to school this week and waiting until we know more about the data re Omicron post Christmas. Not sure if I can legally do it but as she's under 5 and only in reception thinking it may be okay but also not sure if I should. Wondering if any other people thinking of doing the same.?

My brain is engaged thanks.

You said:

Now lets see 3 weeks ago there was approx 53k cases. Even looking at 4times the deaths from todays figures we are looking at approx 200 deaths in 3 weeks time that we can do nothing about.

The last time we had circa 50k cases in a day we also had around 1000 deaths a day. There is no denying that (a) omicron is milder and (b) the vast majority in ICU and dying are unvaccinated. It's totally different. And your "we can do nothing about" isn't correct either - if more people had the vaccine those numbers would be significantly reduced.

I love how many people have the attitude of 'my child is going to school no matter what'. I'm a primary school teacher and have vulnerable family members - every time one of your 'darlings' coughs on me I am terrified to take covid home. Spare some thought for us when you 'can't wait to get your kids back to school'.

I'm vulnerable myself, with even more vulnerable family members. I am, as are most others, well aware that there are CEV people working in schools and/or have CEV family members at home. That still doesn't mean it isn't equally as important that children attend school still. We aren't all sending our kids to school because we want to get rid of them. Some actually do care about their education and well being. It can't be denied that plenty of kids have suffered due to missing out on school. Maybe you could spare a thought for those "darlings" also

It’s not hard to see why in class time is valued by most when denied to some for long periods

Indeed not, despite the contempt and outrage it appears to provoke from some quarters on here.

In shock move, parents decide children should attend school which is open. 🙄

I will spare a thought for your 'darlings' tomorrow - when I tell them to keep their distance from me whilst I'm masked and gloved up. Hope they enjoy seeing the top part of my face and being told to stay in their seats all day. All because people can't deal with educating their own kids at home.

VikingOnTheFridge · 04/01/2022 21:31

Parents who might risk a fine if they didn't, even!

If everybody did that then you'd be out of a job
VikingOnTheFridge · 04/01/2022 21:33

As would be a substantial number of the rest of us.

brass4 · 04/01/2022 21:35

Yeah so would you - unless you have a really understanding employer who doesn't require you to be at work ever again

So people educating their kids at home isn't really the answer then, is it

Mmm, it's almost like there might be a reason people 'can't deal with' homeschooling isn't it?
brass4 · 04/01/2022 21:38

It's sensible during times when covid is surging across the country.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 04/01/2022 21:41

@brass4 you don’t sound like you like the kids or the job much!

Our school has been very unsympathetic with people who want to keep kids off “to wait and see” - Kids are missing the building blocks of learning that things are based on later. Who is going to catch them up - doubt it will be the parents

I want my kid is school for education not childcare thank you very much! As for your “little darling” comment, hope you aren’t my child’s teacher.
brass4 · 04/01/2022 21:44

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I hope I am.

We really need to ensure that classrooms are safe.

An important first step is to ensure that all classrooms have an airfilter/purifier.

Are you seriously a primary teacher? Confused

Candidate for Teacher of the Year right here.

If I didn't know that she can't work a computer I'd strongly suspect you were my son's teacher from Y2. She found the children she taught an enormous inconvenience to her life as well.

I doubt it. I stopped believing posts on here years ago. Some folk just post for the reaction.

Covidworries · 04/01/2022 22:06

@summertimerolls

you can understand that people arent getting a cold or dead. There is a huge variety in how ill people get. Theres the time in between when some people need alot of medical support to not die.

The amazing thing is that vaccinations have helped alot but even some vaccinated people end up in hospital with covid, likely wont die but could be there for weeks. Someone i grew up with so not old by any means has been in hospital due to covid for coming up to 4 weeks and wont be discharged anytime soon. Vaccinated and no underlying health risks so the family are hopeful they will recover.
Then those who havent been vaccinated already are going to be hard pushed to het vaccinated before they catch it now, if they suddenly decided to get the vaccine.
Treatments have got better. Yay good news less deaths, but again need a hospital bed

Whilst it is unlikely people will die in high numbers of omicron it doesnt negate the fact that the nhs can not cope with this level of admissions.

What is your answer refuse ti treat unvaccinated? Refuse to treat any covid infected person?
The reality is if people cant get medical treatment for covid, rtc, heart attacks or any other emergency care more people are going to die that would lolely have recovered.

You started a thread a couple of weeks ago saying that you currently had Covid and you'd only had one jab. Interesting that you're so concerned about catching Covid again so soon, and if you were so concerned about your vulnerable relatives maybe you ought to have got yourself jabbed sooner.

There's someone on this board that constantly name changes and posts stuff like this to get people riled up. They often have a number in their user name. That's all I'm saying.
