Do you have to do a PCR if you have a runny nose?

It’s not one of the listed symptoms on the direct gov site?

Dd had her vaccine a couple days ago and has had a runny nose and very occasional cough since, no other symptoms. Likely to be from the vaccine? Other than going for the vaccine she hasn’t been near anyone since Christmas Eve (we have been at home).

Are people doing a PCR with any hint of a cold?

Test sites over a hour away so it’s a pain in the bum if we need to go and dd is Autistic which makes it even more stressful. She has done a LFT and it’s negative. She’s due back at school Wednesday.

No not at all

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 15:52

Could you order a home PCR?
My dh has had a positive test with a runny nose and scratchy throat

Lovemusic33 · 03/01/2022 15:56

I would need to get her tested today or she won’t be able to return to school Wednesday which would cause a lot of upset. She’s fine in herself, no sore throat, just a runny nose, no temperature or anything. Knowing dd she’s probably shoves a piece of chocolate up her nose or something similar 🤣.

She had her vaccine on Thursday and has been a bit snotty since.

I had a heavy cold, felt unwell. Tested negative with lateral flow but positive withPCR

lightnesspixie · 03/01/2022 15:58

No

DynamiteFilledRadish · 03/01/2022 15:59

No.

SpringRainbow · 03/01/2022 16:01

Runny nose? No you don’t have to.

However, the NHS do recommend testing for cold symptoms. So, it wouldn’t hurt.

How ‘occasional’ is her cough?

isitnewyearyet · 03/01/2022 16:02

Maybe do a LFT!

isitnewyearyet · 03/01/2022 16:02

Sorry the about was supposed to be a question mark 🤪

Anawi · 03/01/2022 16:03

Well no officially for a runny nose, but if she has a cough then yes you should. But a runny nose and a slight headache was was the first symptom all 5 of us had with our current covid. The only symptoms in fact for the littlest two. So I personally would be cautious.

isitnewyearyet · 03/01/2022 16:03

Sorry ignore all above you have done one.

isitnewyearyet · 03/01/2022 16:04

Just to add that I had covid last week and my symptom was a congested nose and daughter who had it had same and headache.

FromTheAshes · 03/01/2022 16:05

My daughter's school have emailed a letter in the last couple of days saying they require any child with symptoms of a child to stay off school and get a pcr. They have also warned that they will be hyper vigilant about sending children home for any symptom at all. I'm dreading it. I'm more cautious than most, and luckily my daughter is OK with the tests, but I feel this is going to be very disruptive for all concerned.

FromTheAshes · 03/01/2022 16:06

Sorry, my phone really hates me today. Symptoms of a cold, clearly!

User2638483 · 03/01/2022 16:06

I wouldn’t bother if lft is negative

Lovemusic33 · 03/01/2022 16:10

She’s only coughed a couple times probably due to snot in her nose rather than a tickle in her throat, she’s not good at blowing her nose.

I just tried to book a PCR and there are none near me and no postal PCR’s left either, so I guess we won’t be testing. I will do another LFT tomorrow.

Don't worry too much about it love. Xxxx

Terminallysleepdeprived · 03/01/2022 20:19

I would but only because 119 told me that runny nose headache and excessive fatigue were the key symptoms of omicron when I rang to ask about isolation dates.

stripetop · 03/01/2022 20:56

How old? Are they not insisting on tests before school anyway for secondary England

dementedpixie · 03/01/2022 21:02

She has done an LFT and it's negative

Lovemusic33 · 04/01/2022 05:42

Shes 15, she goes to a SEN school so will ne testing but she's not forced too. She's woken up this morning sneezing so I have booked a PCR. When her sister had covid in September her main symptom was sneezing and a head ache. I know of I send her in tomorrow without a PCR she will get sent home. I will do another LFT on her when I've woken up properly, PCR booked for 9am.

Unofficial science says stay away from work and school with a cold but nothing official today say this.
The symptoms list is well outdated.

Trinacham · 04/01/2022 08:18

A runny nose was my only symptom.

ifonly4 · 04/01/2022 08:25

My Doctor's website says runny nose, cough, sneezing and headaches are all signs of Omicrom and they advise patients to get tested, so you're doing the right thing getting her tested. Hope she's ok either way.
