How many rapid antigen tests do you do each week?

Am stressed and worried, govt (Australia) has told us we must purchase rapid antigen tests ourselves as they won’t be free. They’re as scarce as hen’s teeth anyway but when they can be found can be about equivalent of £4 to £9 per test. We need them for quick testing otherwise will have to wait for PCR results which are taking 48 to 70+ hours. Just how many do you use each week per household member?

We all test twice a week because Dd is at school. DH works in a busy London pub & before Xmas had to test every day because they had so many cases among staff he was classed as a close contact for weeks on end (and did catch covid)

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2022 13:51

None. I did last week when I was a close contact and I would again in that situation but generally I don't do them.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2022 13:52

Not in Australia though, in England.

QueenofLouisiana · 03/01/2022 13:57

We all do two a week as DH and I teach and DS is still at school.
My parents are retired and have had the same packet since about June. I know they both did one before we all mixed at Christmas. That may have been the second only test my step-dad had ever done.

Siepie · 03/01/2022 13:57

DP and I both test twice a week. She has to report her results to work (NHS) and I just test at the same time as her. We don't test 1 year old DS.

This is in England though, where tests are free and generally easy to come by. I wouldn't be testing twice a week if that was going to be up to £18 a week just for myself.

MaxNormal · 03/01/2022 13:59

None but I don't get out much.

Lacedwithgrace · 03/01/2022 13:59

2-4, anytime we leave the house+if we're seeing anyone

Snowiscold · 03/01/2022 14:01

None.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/01/2022 14:01

Whenever we’re meeting others indoors.

School have asked for the dc to test 3 times in the week before they go back then twice weekly.

I work in a patient facing role in the NHS and we’ve been asked to test before every shift.

BluebellsGreenbells · 03/01/2022 14:01

DD work insist on daily testing even though government recommend twice weekly.

Friends DS works in a supermarket and has to test each day - again against government guidelines.

These companies need to start paying for their own tests above and beyond guidelines. I’m not surprised there is a shortage of tests.

Cornettoninja · 03/01/2022 14:02

Twice a week for the three of us term time and we’ve been testing for specific visits over the Christmas/New Year period. We also test when we visit my df because the nursing home he’s in requires it to enter.

My dd has been a close contact through school a few times now and I test her more during what would have previously been the isolation period. That’s the policy for everyone vaccinated or under 12 now anyway.

RedRec · 03/01/2022 14:02

Lateral flow three times and PCR once (for work).

Watsername · 03/01/2022 14:03

I do 2 for my job, the children do 2 each to go to school. DH does one to go to church. So that’s 7 between us on a normal week. However, it’s been much higher recently because we have to test daily when a close contact (which is often given my job).

Neurodiversitydoctor · 03/01/2022 14:03

Twice a week and an extra one if seeing someone vulnerable.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 03/01/2022 14:05

I’ve only ever done two.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/01/2022 14:05

DH has to test at least twice a week at work, they increase it if anyone tests positive. But is 100 people sharing accommodation, work space, leisure facilities including dining etc so they are very careful.

I only test if necessary. DDs are primary aged and its not advised regularly (only if household contact)

shouldistop · 03/01/2022 14:05

In Scotland and I don't do any asymptomatic testing.

FinallySomeNormality · 03/01/2022 14:07

Usually twice a week (kid at primary school and DH is teacher) for both me and DH. Currently testing daily as we are both identified as close contacts of a known case (actually, we are close contacts with multiple cases atm! 🙈)

freshcarnation · 03/01/2022 14:08

I don't do them unless I'm a close contact of someone with Covid

waterlego · 03/01/2022 14:10

Rarely. I’m not required to for the places I work at. I did one on Christmas Eve as we were meeting indoors with several different family groups, so we all tested to be on the safe side.

Before that, I can’t remember the last time I did one. I would only do one if required to by a workplace/entertainment venue, or if I knew I had spent some time with someone who had subsequently tested +ive.

MyGreenTutu · 03/01/2022 14:11

I do one every time I go into the office , usually twice a week, same for DP.
DD does one twice a week for school.
At the moment, I'd also do one if I was meeting anyone indoors socially (but to be honest don't do a lot of that at present)

VaguelyInteresting · 03/01/2022 14:11

Usually 2, as DS is at primary school. An extra 1 if I’m seeing older/vulnerable relatives or any of my CEV or pregnant friends.

VaguelyInteresting · 03/01/2022 14:12

Oh yeah- and I have to do one if I go into the office (though that’s only 1-2 times a month atm)

DynamiteFilledRadish · 03/01/2022 14:12

None.

MonkeyPuddle · 03/01/2022 14:14

Technically I have to do 2 a week for work, but I work 5 evenings a week so I just test each work day morning. I’m a community nurse so up close and in peoples home and I’d hate to be putting people at risk.
