Thought I knew the rules - clarification?

Christmas house guest tested positive just before leaving to go back home, abroad. Am I correct in thinking that as fully vaccinated contacts, we do not have to isolate but take LFTs for 7 days? And after 7 days, we stop, if there have been no positives? And that's the case even if guest is still testing positive at that point?

Amazed we've managed to dodge it so far, so I've not really had to look at the rules.

That's correct. I know plenty of people who have had covid in the household and avoided it, myself included!

Cookerhood · 03/01/2022 10:28

I think it's 7 days from your last contact with the positive person.

But I'm still in (reduced) contact with them. They now have their own bathroom, but we can't really reduce contact much further. So our last contact with them as a positive case might not be until the weekend. I've got a small stash of tests, but probably not enough to go further than a week...

If they are staying in the house everyone in the house should get a PCR test and isolate until they get the results. If negative then you do lateral flow tests daily.

That was what we had to do when DS tested positive before Christmas in England.

Current guidance was changed just before Christmas, fully vaccinated close contacts are not advised to do a pcr anymore, just lft for 7 days. It's also not compulsory, so if you don't have enough left don't worry too much, limit any other contact with other people as much as possible, avoid busy indoor spaces, work from home if you can.

I thought it was LFTs. Managed to order another box today, so enough in the house to see us through the next week once they arrive. I've arranged to work at home. DH can't, but will hopefully be able to alter his work slightly to sit alone. DC will have to go to school, but we can drop at a distance and still see him in, so minimising mixing.

I've always been more worried about the disruption than the illness. Hopeful,y the next couple of weeks won't be too awful.

You should have had notification of the current guidance from T&T?
But yes it's 7 days LFT and limit contact with others if possible.

SmallestInTheClass · 03/01/2022 16:45

Yes, 7 days and then doesn't matter if they are still positive. Many people still show positive after the full 10 days but doesn't mean they're likely to infect anyone

Not sure if this has been updated - I’ve received an email as a household member has tested positive. It’s telling me to self-isolate for 10 days despite being fully vaccinated and having a negative PCR. It definitely doesn’t match what the latest guidance is on the government website.

JanglyBeads · 03/01/2022 18:54

If you read it should say "unless you are fully vaccinated or under 18.5, in which case do LFTs"
They don't email outdated guidance.

I read it through several times just to make sure. It doesn’t mention anything about being fully vaccinated or under 18. The only phrase which could be relevant is ‘Unless you are exempt, it is your legal duty to stay at home and self-isolate.’ There is no link or guidance in the email as to what makes you exempt.

The messaging could be a lot clearer and more consistent.

My DDs best friend has just tested positive on LFT on day 8 after his Mum’s positive.
